I’ve had several emails from EverWeb users wondering why there have been no new widgets for such a long time. There are literally dozens of them waiting to get onto the new EverWeb Widgets site which will replace the ageing or overloaded EverWeb Codebox site. One of the new features in EverWeb V2.1.0 is the addition of the file selector control in the widget API’s Assets List. This means that we can now create stuff like image galleries with separate thumbnails rather than having to generate them from the full size images. This results in far faster loading pages with image galleries. Here’s a demo of a responsive image grid which launches a lightbox slideshow. To help load large, full sized images faster, the script preloads the previous and next slides. Podcasting has been kind of ignored so there are some widgets for doing that very thing. Coming soon are widgets for creating a fully responsive mobile phone version of the site which display properly on all sizes of phones no matter which way you hold them. There’s also a responsive mobile blog setup for those who are into that. For more advanced users there’s ... Parallax Scrolling which works on touch devices too. Vertical Dot Navigation Full size background media with an optional transparent overlay for creating splash pages. You can't please all the people all the time - especially when it comes to widgets! I've already come under fire for not providing an option thumbnail captions. I'm not a fan of thumbnail captions on an image grid as they tend to make it messy and confusing. The compromise is to have an option for overlay captions which can be turned on/off globally and have an option to show them only on hover. The page needs to be published to the server before the Disqus comments will appear. Make sure the Disqus Shortname is entered correctly in the widget settings.
