I always thought that iWeb lacked some fundamental functions such as Group/Ungroup and Lock/Unlock (of elements and their position on a page).
The need for this may be obvious to some who have more complex pages and do more frequent updates. There are days I update the Front Page of my website (http://www.njnaturenotes.com) more than half a dozen times. All depends on what news and information comes through.

Also, what about copy and paste of formatting of elements? When numerous elements require the same formatting, it would GREATLY facilitate accomplishing it.

Every time I try to do things I did with iWeb I come up with new requests. I know you can't possibly implement all of them at once, but here's another suggestion: unless I missed something, cropping of images in the application. I added a cropped photo from iPhoto and it came in as full-frame.

Can these be done and are they planned?

Not yet ready for prime time, but I think you will get there.

Thanks,
Rich

You should ask yourself (or the Apple programmers) why this wasn't implemented in iWeb. Remember that we are dealing with a web design app and not a DTP one like iWork.

There's quite a lot of differences between design for print and for the web!

While these might look like typical DTP features, I'd love to see them in EasyWeb. Those are features I used a lot when I tried to work with Freeway.

It's alright to have all this stuff in a web design app as long as people are aware that they will create a better website if they don't use them!

Drag and drop website creation is a trade off between convenience and efficiency. I suppose it is the choice of the individual whether they want their site to perform well in the browser and search engines or be easy to build!

Not necessarily so, Roddy. Some objects need to be grouped so if/when moved they retain their relative positions to one another. This is especially useful when using the same objects elsewhere. It's a pain to readjust and make them look exactly the same, particularly when putting them together (as a group) in a different position on another page. Can't use the XY positioning then. And, with some frequently updated pages, it would also allow for those specific objects to be locked in position and not be accidentally moved.

Instead of command clicking multiple objects to select them as a group you can simply drag over them.

In general, groups of objects that are used on more than one page of a site are placed in the header or footer. These would be setup on the "template" page and there should be no need for further adjustment.

Anything "accidentally moved" can be reset with a quick command z!

On the other hand, most websites created using drag and drop software are usually easily identified as such because of inconsistencies in the layout ranging from being slightly odd looking to downright awful. Perhaps some users do need help in this area?

One of the things I do quit a lot when I am creating the CSS for a div containing a group of objects is to give it a temporary border so that it's easier to judge whether the various margins and padding settings are in harmony. You can do the same in a drag a drop editor by adding a background shape to help in visually aligning the objects and then deleting it when you are finished of course!

Grouping and Locking would be extremely helpful.
