Viewing Preview fails to find file to finish publishing

Preview fails to find file to finish publishing

User: Dona Laressa D. 9 years ago
After creating a new blog page I attempted to preview the site. The site seemed to successfully publish right down to the new last page the blog but after the last page was indicated in the popup an error message suggesting the file could not be found appeared and the preview failed.

Running the 2.0 release on El Capitan. Was earlier using dropbox for shared authoring but with some other issues showing up moved the file back to a local drive to eliminate any potential web access timing issues for safety.

Please advise.

Love the new Blog feature can't wait to start.

Any chance for a "Copy Style - Paste Style" tool?

Hi Dona,

Sorry for the problems you are experiencing.

Can you tell me exactly what the error message said?

I am not sure exactly what the problem is, but with more details I am sure I can help you.

Thanks for the help.

There are two versions of it not working.

The first yields a popup note over the working window that says. Unable to find file to preview. Try restarting your computer to clear temporary files.
I noticed that the Post and Archive pages were not included in the navigation menu (must they?) I added them to the menu and tried to preview again yielding a different state.

This second condition was different. The file displayed the normal building messages and continued to the end and the site appeared in preview. All the original pages could be accessed through the menu but... when I selected the blog index page safari displayed this message. Safari Can't Find the File No file exists at the address "/var/folders/km/c6....... ......./a-Therapist-Blog/index.html"
The page url before it was the same except for the actual page name ending.

Thoughts ; )

Can you tell me what are the names of your blog posts? Please provide them exactly as you have written them in EverWeb.

Also what is the name of your blog directory page in the website list?

I am thinking there may be a bug and this information would help me fix it.

Hi,

Here's the names of the blog posts test entry I used to build the trial blog.

How do I know if I am in love with a Narsasist?
How do I know if I am in love with a Turnip?

Here is the blog directory page name.

A Therapist Blog

There was an earlier page where I had mocked up these same two blog posts which were deleted when the new blog feature was added.

Hope this helps.

If you don't see anything curious should I delete the blog and re build it or could there be some old internal directory information that might be purged?

best,

DLD

Hi Dona,

If the blog name is;
A Therapist Blog

EverWeb is looking for this name with a lowercase a;
a-Therapist-Blog

Which is strange

I will do some more testing here and get back to you

Hi Dona,

It appears that if you change the name of the blog directory page you may encounter this issue (version 2.0.2 and earlier). We will work on a fix for the next update of EverWeb, but in the meantime, if you make a design change to your your posts page and archive page, EverWeb will publish it again and it should work.

Please let me know.

HI Paul,

That worked! and now I can see the capital letter menu item in the preview on Safari and Chrome.

I added a new post... now that I can see a preview, there is an issue with additional space added apparently between the document space and footer space.

Thanks for the guidance.

best,
DLD
