Viewing old site still coming up in google search

old site still coming up in google search

User: LannyWebb W. 9 years ago
I just redid my iWeb site in ever web and have published it to my go daddy server several times. The iWeb site listed the url twice as a default. Ever web’s published site list it only once as it should be.
When doing a google search, my old site shows up and functions as it did. It’s no longer on the server, how is that possible?
Thanks

Hi,

The best solution is to use the 301 redirect feature to redirect your older URLs to your new ones. However, this is only available in the EverWeb + Hosting package.

You could set the above up with your current web host but you would have to work with their system to do this.

The second option would be to delete your old iWeb site from your server. Within 1 - 2 weeks Google will remove it from their listings.

Of course this has the negative effect of removing all of your older rankings. This is why we have the 301 redirect feature above, to easily work around this issue and keep your older rankings.

Let me know if any of this requires clarification.

Hey Paul,
The problem is the version of the site iWeb posted lists the url twice as a default. For example “customvintagetrailerparts.com/customvintagetrailerparts.com” The registered url is customvintagetrailerparts.com.
So I can’t do a redirect since the double listing isn’t really a site.

The older site is on the server in a sub folder of the url titled “customvintagetrailerparts.com.”

I can delete this folder BUT if I do, Google will show folks searching for one of my products the double listing “customvintagetrailerparts.com/customvintagetrailerparts.com “ and if they click on it they will be taken to a broken link.

If I can get to the different pages of the older site would it be possible to add a line of code to redirect to the new pages? If so can you help me with the code?

I had the same issue. GoDaddy Customer Support walked me through gaining access to the directory page which showed all my uploaded information. Using their help I wiped ALL of the iWeb page off of the GoDaddy server. I then went back to iWeb and delated all but my home page. I pulished a link to the new website from iWeb for those who bookmarked my old site or found it using an out of date search.
