Mobile and desktop and tablet 3 sites?

User: Frank M. 9 years ago
So I designed a site, computer sized, then started on on a mobile thinking it is one site but then I had a Nav menu with 2 of everything. Made a Directory "Mobile" but that seems clunky. I assume I have this all wrong.

So starting over and this time Mobile first (kudos to Roddy MacKay and his stunning website everwebcodebox.com <absolute must read for anyone designing any kind of a website.)

So is my mobile site a completely separate site?
Or does it sit in some nested directory?
How do I load both sites up with my site_name.com
How do I make sure that is is a mobile site is in the header? Will clicking Everweb's this is a mobile page do that?

How do I make the navigation widget make a more mobile friendly drop down menu?

Have I left anything out of these questions? lol

thanks in advance

My first question would be, "Is the smart phone site single level or will it have directories?".

If it is single level you can create it in a directory of the full site and use a touch device style navigation widget for the menu.

If the smart phone site has directories you need to create it as a separate project and publish it as a sub directory. I personally would publish both the full and phone sites as sub sites with an index.html file in the root folder to redirect vistors to the appropriate version.

I haven't tried this with EverWeb hosting but I don't see why it couldn't be done. Create a main site with just a home page and upload the full site and the phone site as sub sites. The home page in the root folder is just a blank page with a redirect to the appropriate version. Info about redirects.

I use iPage as my hosting and will have two password protected pages for my Member Videos hosted on Vimeo (likely moving to AWS next year)
I think four of my pages can be Mobile only, the two members pages will just hold a set of HTML snippets linked ot the individual files on Vimeo.
then a Special offer page with one PayPal button that unlocks the video on that page (not actually sure about that or if it is possible, but who ever stopped a Mac user from cliff diving! ;-) )
And a Buy Page with only Two PayPal options.

I think what I am not understanding is how do the Mobile pages get names? When I am watching the video they are just clicking on a page called Mobile and linking that to a computer sized page for redirect.

I do not see the "Touch Navigation" Widget in my version 1.9.6 Build 1530.

Does anyone here use iPage and have any tips on the ftp settings? I've always had problems with iWeb, so...

Thanks again

Just add an "m" prefix to your smart phone pages in the left column of the EverWeb window. For example you will have a "buy" page and an "m-buy" page.

There are at least a couple of dozen third party widgets for creating navigation, You need to purchase them separately.
