If I duplicate my website copy to build my mobile website will I penalised with my SEO ranking?
I know duplicate content can have a knock on effect.

From your experience will my SEO improve if I have a mobile friendly website? So far ever web sites look great without mobile built themes. What would your advice be?

I don't think duplicating your content to a mobile page will cause you to be penalized.

Your SEO won't improve, but having a mobile friendly option will help with your SEO with mobile searches. In other worse, people searching on a mobile device will be more likely to see mobile friendly results, so this would give your site a better chance at ranking on mobile searches.

Here is a link to what Google says about it. Essentially right now mobile and desktop are seen separately. The mobile ranking is by pages, not by site.

Duplicatimg you content will be penalised if you don't replace all your links with tabs (CTAs) which are at least 32px wide and 28px in height. It is essential to make sure your navigation menu complies with this.

You should also replace all text hyperlinks with CTA (Call To Action) buttons.

Unless you are creating a responsive website, you should consider creating three versions of you site since most full site designs are not suitable for tablets. More Info.
