Transparent parts of PNGs show up white

User: Javon X. 8 years ago
Hello there

I would like to use PNGs with an alpha channel for a website. But not matter which PNG i import the trasparent parts always show up white. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, it seemed pretty straight forward to me.

First I import my images into "photos" app/folder of OSX (not sure if that's the english name, i use a german version where it's called "Fotos"). Then in everweb I import the images by clicking on the "media" icon at the bottom right and then choose the ones i want under "photos" and drag and drop them onto my canvas. The previews of the media-windows shows them with no transperancy already.

I imported pngs from other websites, created new ones using photohsop and gimp. The same thing happens everytime. The OSX imageviewer itself displays them just fine, so it must have something to do with everweb.
Funny thing is, the standart "made with everweb"-PNG that you see at the bottom when you create a new blank website has transparency! So clearly there's a way.
What am I doing wrong?

I'm using the trial version. On OSX el capitan.

Hi Javon,

Sorry for the problems you are experiencing.

If you click the Assets tab and then select the image you imported in the design canvas, what is the file extension you see?

Does it say .png?

The Media browser that you see there is from the operating system so it may be sending the image as a JPEG for some reason.

Let me know and we can work from there

Hello Paul
Thanks for your reply. You are right, all the file extensions of the supposed PNGs I imported are .jpg. For some reason they are getting converted on import.

Is there a way to import images directly into everweb without the viewer, without "photos"? Through a simple "file select"-dialog or something?

When I drag & drop a PNG directly from a finder-window onto the canvas it works with transparency. I thought I tried that at the beginning, but apparently not. Horray!

You should be able to drag it from a finder window into the Assets list as well and select it from there.

Hello Javen X,

save your PNG transparency images in PNG24 mode that should take care of the White Trim around your images and is an absolute when saving images that have drop shadow gradients or any edge gradient for that matter.
