commercial sites, shopping cart software, paypal, etc.

Hello kids:

My current website was made with iWeb. I use PayPal buttons, using the HTML widget. It works fine, but very limited due to the lack of flexibility with payPal. I really like the look of EverWeb and want to migrate my site over. I want to make my site more professional and user friendly with some kind of shopping cart software. This is what I want out of it:

1) options at checkout: add a discount code during checkout to get 10% off, free shipping , etc.
2) shipping calculations: choose ground, express, overnight shipping options, with real time cost estimates on each.
3) some kind of a product "grid" using a template system so it is easy to add a hundred products to the site.
4) shopping cart icon in the upper right corner, shopping cart integrated into the site as you normally see with most online stores.

I realize this stuff isn't EW specific, but if someone can give me some direction I would be grateful. As of now I would prefer to use PayPal as the credit card merchant. (rates hover around 2-2.5% per transaction, seems pretty reasonable to me.)

You really need to go look at ecommerce solutions such as THIS ONE.

PayPal does have problems for Mac users who use Safari as discussed HERE.

Thanks for the info. So now I'm confused....what is the difference between a web building app like EW and a shopping cart software like Shopify? Is Shopify a web building app that also happens to deal with ecommerce? Or do I build a website with EW and use Shopify as the cart part of it?

You can build an online store - or even one on Facebook - but it's better to create a "real" website and add the buy functions and the cart.

How you go about it will depend on the type and number of products. One way is to group related products on a page using a module and link each one to a full product info page with a buy button.

ECWID looks like a good option for creating a web store to insert into your website. You can start out with a free account.

Here's an example of an e-commerce shop inserted into EverWeb using a Flex Responsive widget so that it can be viewed on any device.
