Creating a sub-menu item from main menu on Master Page

User: Courtney H. 8 years ago
I have several items on the main menu that open drop down items. Worked great.
Then about 6 months ago I moved the main menu to the master page to save some work recreating that menu every time I added something.

Tonight I wanted to add a new drop down item to the main menu for the first time since I made that move. I'm stumped. There's no place to put the directory so it'll show up there -- unless I've been up too long and have my stupid hat on.

Roddy! You know everything :-)

Don't try to add the directory while you have the Master page selected.

Select any other page and you will then be able to add a new directory to the left column and create pages. Check the "Include page in navigation menu" for each one and you will see them on the Master page when you return to it.

Thanks Roddy. You always have the answer to these stupid questions. I thought I had tried what you suggested - but not the "include page" part. I did that for the directory and the event showed up on the main menu, not the drop down part.
Anyway - it's all moot right now. Something blew up and I lost ALL the pages I had spent 10 hours building. That's the first time that's happened to me. Sigh. I'm going to bed.
Tomorrow is another day.

Cheers,
Courtney

Roddy -
This isn't working for me.
Here's what's happening:
My menu is on a master page so I don't have to recreate it every time I add a new event. This master menu contains 8 headings, each has a drop down.
I added a new directory on the left side. Let's call it: "Pictures of Las Vegas 2015".

I want this to show in the drop down under the main menu item name of "Pictures". "Pictures" already has 4 or 5 other other sets to chose from.

My new directory is placed under the "Pictures" listing in EW. If I check "show this page navigation then this "Pictures of Las Vegas" shows as a drop down BUT also becomes a Main Menu listing and messes up the layout. I don't want it to be part of the main menu, but only a drop down from "Pictures".

For the life of me, I can't figure out what I did wrong although I;'m sure it's something stupid and right in front of me.

Are you trying to create a directory within a directory?

The short answer is - no. It looks as though the directory of this new item is far enough to the "left" to not be nested under the main menu item directory. With that said, some of the existing drop-down items are also directories, and some are not. All seem to show okay.

Can you post a screenshot of the left column showing the site structure as it seems that I don't understand what's going on?

Will do. I know this is one of those cases where a verbal picture isn't doing the job.
In a day or two.
Thanks!
