Viewing EW 1.9

EW 1.9

User: Raf P. 8 years ago
EW released 1.9?
My 1.8.2 has a message: There is a newer version available ...
Is this correct? I thought 1.9 was still a beta version?

I wouldn't advise updating via the app if you use code injection and/or need to look at the source of your published pages.

V1.9 optimises the HTML and makes it a nightmare to review the source code. Better to rename V1.8 and keep it for creating test sites.

It's a pity this has been forced on us since optimising the HTML doesn't really create a noticeable gain in download speed. I would have thought that this could have been optional?

Thx for the advice! Good idea to work with 2 versions of EW.
But, 1.9 is an official release now?

No idea! There's been no announcement - just in notification in the app which I ignore.

Good afternoon from Spain.
I just upgrade "a clean install" of OS X El Capitan, and download the Everweb app from your site. Some widgets don't work appropriately in 1.9 and now I discover 1.9 is a beta. Where I can download everweb 1.82?
Thanks.

Did you have a 1.8.2 before the clean install and a backup?

If not: use this one and download 1.8.2 for 10.7+

This is not true, use the Inspect element option in all modern browsers, they break the code up into a tree view.

Most users do not need this and don't care to be able to do look at the code as is the point of EverWeb.

If you are having specific issues with EverWeb 1.9 let us know. I cannot emphasis that enough. Going back to older versions doesn't necessarily fix issues. Please give us a chance to investigate and fix issues.

We pushed version 1.9 out to our existing users and will announce it officially next week.

That's OK if you know which element to inspect which is not often the case when someone asks for help to troubleshoot an issue.

But they do expect others to look at their source code when they screw up or get stuck.

You can use something like this;

http://www.cleancss.com/html-beautify/

Even if it were an option I think most people will enable it anyways.

I hope the people who contact you know that this is a difficult thing to do, whether or not the code is optimized!

When users have problems with code or widgets I usually ask them to publish a test page with just the problem item on it to more easily see what's what and to be able to compare it with the version with all the content.

The optimised code makes the former much more difficult and the latter almost impossible. It just means that those of us who take the time to help users with their problems will be less inclined to do so. I guess we'll just direct them to EverWeb support from now on!

I would still advise users to keep a copy of V1.8 for creating test pages if the optimisation can't be optional.

Does EW1.9 have consequences on the sitemap.xml for SEO by Automator?

Congratulations with the release of EW1.9.
EW recommend to create a new sitemap after publishing entire site with 1.9 because 1.9 creates another 'structure' what I read here?

Thank you!

You don't need to generate a new sitemap, your website structure does not change.
