Manage the widgets window

Option to create personal folders / sections to manage all the widgets in a way it will be easier to pick the right widget in a fast way. From the reason that widgets can be installed and add to the software, the widgets window (can) become very crowded. For example I have more than 180 widgets already, they are all mixed in small window. In this cases it's very hard to choose a widget, it takes too much time (almost impossible). For this issue also make a list view with adding a tooltip window (with small animation or picture) to understand what the widget do, will help. |

I have been searching for a thread on this forum which addresses the general issue of 3rd party widget updates or lack thereof. EverWeb embedded widgets are updated with new versions of the application which is very nice, however I imagine EverWeb could reduce support costs if there was a convenient method allowing users to update their 3rd party widgets from within EverWeb. Apple iOS does this with the App Store. Users purchase 3rd party iOS apps from the App Store, Apple takes a cut of the purchase price, but facilitates future updates of the app, acting as a go-between for the user and app developer. Certainly this would not be a trivial feature for EverWeb to support. Would EverWeb consider at least requiring 3rd-party widget developers to provide a clear policy regarding widget updates as new versions of EverWeb are released. It should be, I think, in everyone's interest to minimize code conflicts that arise as new software evolves, reducing support expenses and user frustration. thank you. Last edit 10 years ago |

| The only dedicated third party widgets that I know of are from Roddy. I think a couple of theme options are available too? If you look at the price of Roddys widgets and how often he comes out with new ones, I do not think it would be price or time wise to enter into Apple Dev Program for him. He would most likely have to greatly increase price, and jumping through the hoops would probably discourage and greatly slow down the work that he does. Plus we would have to wait for the Appale approval, which can take time. From my experience using the widgets, they rarely need updates. | |

So this is a pain. I wrote a detailed reply to Roddy on this thread late in the morning, but the blog server complained I wasn't logged in.... OK I logged in, typed another short paragraph then hit the "POST REPLY" button. My post did not display, so I thought maybe it was awaiting moderation, but now I see the system just set the bits & bytes into the ether... nice. Never mind. That has not happened at any other online forums I participate in, just this one. |

Even if you are logged in, the system will log you out after a period of time. This was extended fairly recently but you can still get cut off. When writing a long post, it's best to copy it to you clipboard before clicking the "Post Reply" button in case you have been logged out and have to start all over again. Most of us have found this out the hard way! ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! I know the issues with the forum logging people out. It is very annoying and frustrating and I've tried to fix it, but it never seems to work properly. I am going to look more into it. As for Widget management, we want to make it better and we are working in it. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |
