Viewing Mobile Site : looks different on Windows and iPhone

Mobile Site : looks different on Windows and iPhone

User: Sue B. 10 years ago
Just done a mobile version of my site according to Everweb guidelines. I'm happy with how it looks on Windows / Android phones but when I looked on the Iphone (Safari) the writing was small with a large blank bit at the side.

Do I need to create a Apple version and if so how do I tell Everweb how to distinguish between the two??

Thanks!

What's your website URL?

Why not provide a clickable link ( I use the URL button ) to the actual page where the problem occurs :

The page is 480px wide, but the wooden panel is 855px wide, making the page wider :

Use it as a browser background, instead of dropping it in the footer layer and then start moving it around until it fits.

Background images are not a good idea at the best of times and should never be used on the smart phone version of the site.

Your full site is slow to download due to the size of the image so imagine what it is like for those trying to download the page on a smart phone over a cellular network.

Thanks Jumbo

So what do you suggest Roddy - that's a serious question - not being sarcastic

The background image on your mobile site is 855 x 1494 and the page width is only 480px so can reduce the image size somewhat. Open it in Preview.app and select Image Size from the Tools menu.

The one on your full site is 1.3Mb in size which explains the slow download. Website images are always a compromise between quality and file size.

And while you're busy making everything smaller, try a smaller phone button. 908x908px is rather silly on a small device :

And you won't get many calls on this number :
