Publishing Issues

User: James G. 11 years ago
Using latest stable build of EW, mac is using latest os/updates.

I am trying to publish a site and it keeps failing. First I get a message to turn off passive publishing, then I get an error that it will not use another port.
I published with no problem either yesterday or the day before.
I have reset wifi, cleaned and restarted computer, restarted EW.
Each time I try to publish it gives me a different port that has failed

Do you have your own hosting provider or are you using our hosting?

Sounds like you have a third party host. If so ask them to make sure all passive ports are opened and give them that port number that's coming up.

It is all through EW. In the images, Everweb is the host being published to

Thank you for the link to the knowledgebase article. Turning off secure publishing worked for me

Paul -

I had the same problem this evening. I did quite a bit of changes to the site over the past few days and it published fine until now. Turning off Secure Publishing and Passive FTP stopped the error.
What did I gain or lose with those changes?

BTW - EW is host.

I spoke too soon. I'm now getting an error access port 56475. Clicking OK allows it to finish but the site is not fully updated.
Little Snitch updated yesterday but I don't see anything there that might be causing this.

If you are having this error, try publishing again now.

You should go back in the Preferences and turn on Secure Publishing and Passive Publishing options.

The first option regarding Secure Publishing is recommended to be on. It encrypts your data being sent to and from the server. The second option (passive connections) is basically changing between a type of connection and is usually irrelevant. The "newer" and standard protocol is to keep it on. Usually you should always have it on with EverWeb + Hosting. We just had to make an adjustment to your server to get this working in all cases again.

All should be OK now. Let me know if you still have publishing issues.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I did a website check of some of my sites today and the one hosted on EW (RHSclassof69.com) is messed up. I use a very dark, almost black) grey background with white text. The text for the entire site is now all black. Black on black isn't working :-)

I tried to republish the site but it's bombing out with port access errors (still). Tried to check the settings mentioned above the PREFERENCE-ACCOUNT shows the account status as "terminated".
This site is effectively off line for now.
Waz up?

Thanks.

EDIT: 30 minutes later - uploading the entire site and this time it seems to be taking it.

I had the same problem yesterday. Problem was a improperly configured email and over time my Mac would check mail it would fail on my EW mail for my site. After so many failures the server shut down access. Mostly publishing would just shutdown but once I got a error message like the ones stated above. Support had me sign in to my accout and then the server would allow me to publish. Fixed email configuration pass word and all is well. hope this helps
