More About Widget Position

Here's another example of Widget positioning not quite working out as planned.

This is how it looks in in EasyWeb...

... and published...

Note how the spacing between the two Widgets is about 20px greater in EW than it is in the published version.

The margin-top -20px in white-container is causing the spacing between the two elements issue.

Although HTML Widgets are very powerful when they are displayed in EasyWeb they are being displayed in their own "container". The preview in EasyWeb doesn't know about all the other elements on the page or the positioning of the element. When you publish your website the widget code is embedded on the website. Positional css such as left, top, padding and margin may produce different results when published vs when shown in EasyWeb.

It is best not to use these unless you really know what you are doing.

Hope this makes sense.

Remember, since it is very powerful and flexible there is room for a lot of issues like these.

I need to get my head around the way in which EasyWeb positions the Widgets!

I created the two objects in WebDesign and then moved them over to EW. I am aware of the negative top margin because I put it there and the whole sheebang works fine in WebDesign and in the browser.

Its probably the same kind of thing that's causing the odd placement in my other topic about positioning. I'll have to go back and take another look.

The Widgets really are a powerful feature and I'm probably going over the top with using them. Its just difficult to contain my excitement over being able to add so many features easily in EW that were quite difficult or impossible in iWeb!
