Viewing Downsizing images does not update file info in EW

Downsizing images does not update file info in EW

Hi

At times I find myself using images that are just too big. Silly of course but it happens.
So when this happens, I use the eye (o) icon in the Assets list to view the file, open it with Preview and then use Preview to adjust the size and dpi settings. This in itself works great as Preview downsizes the file just like you want it.

Now with the newly added function to see the file sizes and details, this function makes it easier to find the data hogs and downsize them. Yet, when I do this the way I described above, the actual file is indeed downsized but this is not being updated in the Assets list. So even if a 2 MB files is down to 250 K , the Asstes list will still show this file as 2 MB.

I also tried closing down EW after the file changes but that doesn't help, neither does turning " Show file details" Off and On again.

Cheers,

Peter

If you downsize your image like that, the details won't be updated in EverWeb. These details are stored in a database so that EverWeb doesn't have to continually open the picture to determine the DPI, size etc... That would be really slow.

For version 1.9 we intend on adding a lot more optimization tools for images. Actually in version 1.8 there will be some when you initially add them to your Assets list.

Many people are adding 100MB tiff images to their site. That will be slow to work with and publish so we're looking into providing proper solutions.
