Mobile pages not displaying on mobile device but displays desktop site

| I have mobile settings "Mobile Page" unchecked for desktop pages, and checked for the mobile version having a page width of 480. My iPod brings up the desktop version. If I browse to the mobile version it is 1/2 size and stuck to the left of the screen even though I have centered layout. I have two other sites up and running where I have no problems with the correct version displaying. | |

In the Page Inspector for your Desktop site, if you scroll to bottom and check Mobile Settings- have you set a redirect to your Mobile Page(s)? For instance- on a Desktop Home Page, you would set the redirect to your Mobile Home Page, etc. |

| No I did not. On my other sites that work OK I just clicked the box saying it was a mobile page and no redirects. Should I uncheck the this is for mobile page and put the actual mobile page url in? And do the redirect for each page as well? Thanks | |

That is what I have done. I used to have it the other way and things worked well- I could turn device to landscape and get desktop. That stopped working for me one day and only loaded desktop, so I went through and did the redirects and the mobile loads on mobile for the most part. My Nexus gets confused about which site to load sometimes, my ipad 1 only shows desktop. |

Mobile is kind of a misnomer since the mobile redirect is based on device screen width. If set up correctly, most smart phone users will get redirected to the mobile version but not those using tablets such as iPad. Many EverWeb users don't seem to understand that their main site gets displayed on tablets and should be designed accordingly with a page width of no more than 800p and no hovers or text hyperlinks. The other option is to create three versions of the site so that tablet users are properly catered for. Check your analytics to see what devices your visitors are actually using. The main cause of "mobile" sites being pushed to the left is the EverWeb Facebook widget. There is now a modified version which I believe is installed in the 1.8beta. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! | You are correct Roddy, I did have a Facebook link out of bounds of my mobile page. On my desktop home page I used Mobile Setting "One of my pages" to mobile-home. Same with all the desktop pages. I am not using any redirects. Now it works as it should. | |

| Keep it simple. I just set all my sites to 800p wide (without using "Mobile Settings") and they work everywhere. People are used to scrolling down a page. All that "real estate" on either side is not needed. (I still have sites working fine via iWeb, and have them set to 800p wide, too.) | |

| Lena, if you rely on search rankings at all, you should know that as of 3 days ago I believe, google is knocking the rankings down if there is not an 'approved' mobile site. No text links, site size smaller than desktop, etc | |

Quote: google is knocking the rankings down if there is not an 'approved' mobile site. Google actually approves the Millers Tale Music site but the time it takes to complete the test is an indication that some improvements are necessary. A better test is to use the Pagespeed Insights Checker for Mobile plugin for Chrome. This shows that the site scores well for user experience but poorly for download speed. This is in part due to the repeated use of a down arrow image which requires about 30 browser requests. Its not a brilliant idea to do this sort of thing on the full site but the mobile version should only have images that are actual photos relating to the content. Use CSS rather than images for creating buttons, backgrounds, shadows and so on. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb!
