About widgets

User: Yelena 8 years ago
I have a request about widgets. Since I don't use them every day and there are so many at this point, I would love to be able to click on a widget used on a page and know exactly which one it is. Maybe its icon could be highlighted in the Widgets like the photos are highlighted in Assets when a particular photo is clicked on... Or maybe its name could appear in the Inspector section of widgets? It would be very helpful...

All the EverWeb Codebox widgets have the widget name at the top of the widget settings panel. This was added quite a while back around the time they were upgraded for EverWeb V1.4.

I now have over 300 widgets installed so this feature was added as much for myself as everybody else.

It is a good suggestion that I can look into implementing.

I'm sorry but a lot of widgets have no name on top. It would be very helpful indeed.

You are using old versions of the widgets prior to V1.4. They were all updated to include the widget name around June of 2014. It was actually Raf P. who suggested this idea way back then!

What do you recommend changing the old widgets by the latest ones? Uninstall them and activate the new ones is enough? What happens when I forgot to activate a widget, opens an existing website with a missing widget in it?

When you uninstall a widget, any items created with it will disappear.

If you replace a widget which was installed prior to V1.4 with the later version you will need to recreate an items that were made with the widget.

I have 18 websites full of widgets. It's impossible to recreate all the items including their captions, text, galleries, images, SEO, etc. and hundreds of hours work. Widgets should be updated and not replaced.
How can I find out which version of widgets I have? What's the version right now?
What about the coming of EW1.8?

Updates for all the widgets were sent out when EverWeb V1.4 was introduced. If you installed these everything will be OK. The problem is that quite a few users claim they didn't get the updates. Updates are sent to the email address used for ordering the widgets. Every time I send out updates, some emails don't reach their target for various reasons and this is out of my control.

Widgets have two version numbers - the actual widget version and the application version. The application version is the lowest version of EverWeb in which you can use the widget.

If you want to reinstall widgets that may not be compatible with your websites, create another user account. When I was doing code stuff for clients I had several differrent user accounts for the different types of work such as music production, website design, front end coding etc.

Most EverWeb widgets can just be double clicked to install them and update them. You should go through each page on your site to make sure that the widget still looks as you intended it to.

I don't know about all of Roddy's widgets but you shouldn't have to recreate them unless he completely changed the way they work using the new features of EverWeb's Widget API.

The image galleries are the most likely ones that will need to be updated because of the new Assets list that let you specify the list of images without having to enter any code. It depends on how old the widget is that you are using and wether the galleries you had used the old HTML input method to reference images or had an Assets list.

I hope this makes sense and sorry for the inconvenience.
