Viewing Dropdown symbol

Dropdown symbol

User: Raf P. 11 years ago
Hi,

I used a symbol to notice there is a dropdown in the navmenu. Symbol ▾
Works perfect on an Mac device but not on an Android one. What can I do to show visitors there is a dropdown available?

You just need to try other ones to see what works. The most foolproof method would be to create the triangle using CSS.

I'm creating a whole set of widgets to insert 500 different types of icons - with and without transparency - but it will probably be a week or so before they are released.

I have added a section to THIS PAGE showing how to create and use a CSS triangle instead of an HTML symbol for the down arrow.

I paste the triangle in the 'name of the menubar' after the directory name. Like this: 20 years ▾
On an android device, the down arrow comes like a square (missing font). So, maybe it is possible to upload that font so all devices recognices the triangle?

In fact, for me, this is an EW issue. Creating menu's with dropdown must be clear for the visitors there is a dropdown!

HTML characters are recognised by desktop browsers but very few are rendered in mobile ones. iOS doesn't recognise too many of then either. These symbols are generated by the browser and are not hosted.

Dropdown indicators are not used on the majority of websites designed to be viewed on computers since desktop browsers support hovers and they are unnecessary in most cases.

If you want to design for tablets, you should create a separate version of the site for these devices with a narrower page width and change the navigation type, replace all text links with CTA buttons and get rid of all the other items which use onMouseover and replace them with onClick.
