A way to tell where the cursor is on the screen in pixel coordinates or other choosable units of measurement would be a useful layout tool. This could be moving tics on rulers and/or numbers in a separate window/pallet/panel. Two examples attached. Last edit 11 years ago |

EverWeb is for web design - not graphic design or DTP - and rulers are certainly not appropriate. I don't remember ever wanting know where the cursor is in a web design app - just the position of objects. One of the advantages of using a drag and drop app - rather than code entry - is that it is quick and easy to arrange the objects on the page to create a visually pleasing, balanced layout. People who this type of app are usually more creative than technical. If it looks right - it is right. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! While lining things up in EW, I've found that the auto (snapping) tools that EW has to do it doesn't always do the job. So I end up using a line from the shapes menu to make sure things are properly aligned... The auto alignment tools in EW sometimes do what they think is correct, not always what looks best. That's what the Metrics inspector is for. If you want a bunch of objects to be aligned - say on the left edge - select them all and set the value for X in the Metrics inspector. It''s quick and simple.

There is no way that that technique would be equal in speed and accuracy as having temporary boarder lines that the feature he's requesting would give you... The way your talking about doing it only applies to elements that are already on the page. This would make it so you drag and drop elements in to the design area and they would be in place. I agree that it's not that much of a (must have item) there are other ways to get it done.
