All new text is being rendered on browser in BOLD

User: Larry D. 9 years ago
For some reason, when I publish after entering new text, it renders on both Safari and Firefox in bold. It looks just fine in EverWeb but not in the browsers after I publish and refresh the browser windows. This is only affecting new text I've added and the old text looks correct, bold and regular. I've even copy and pasted old text window that was rendering correctly to new location and it all comes out bold in the browsers.

I need help fixing this so I can continue with building the site.

Thank you,

Oliver

You'll expedite a good response if you post your URL.

Somewhere out there in the Universe is a page with bold text.

And you wonder why that is.

Since it does not make sense to you to tell where that page is, it is difficult for others to find out what the problem is.

It is on my computer and unaccessible to those "out there". Again, I have discribed a problem with EverWeb publishing bold text when it is not bold text. I am looking for a solution to this problem.

If you are not familiar with this problem then I guess looking at source code might be helpful. If so, then I will create a small page, publish it and then put it "out there" somewhere so those interested in helping me can look at the code and maybe give me some useful feedback.

If that is what you were alluding to then it would have been nice to tell me so by saying "'You'll expedite a good response if you post your URL' so we can look at the source code" would have been much better, don't you think?

I am struggling with this new (to me) program and trying to wade through it's glitches. At this point I am a standstill.

Thank you in advance for those who will lend me some assistance.

You use the word Publish, which to most means it is out there to be seen, not just on your computer.

Do you mean Preview, not Publish

It would be great if you would Publish a small page that has the issue. If you post a url, you will often times get responses from users before the support staff. A lot of us are learning too and like to try to figure out what is going on

This is an EverWeb forum and on EverWeb "Publish" means to create HTML code that gets saved to your hard drive that can be later uploaded to a web hosting service.

Thank you for your advice and I am going to create a new page and see if I has the same problem. If not, then I will move everthing over from the problem page. If it still bolds everthing then I will just place in a paragraph with bold and no bold, so indicating in the text, and publish and upload to a place where other can look at it.

Ok, I found the problem.

My page has several shopping carts, which are HTML snippets. I decided to add some text "Select Quantity" to be placed above the cart button dropdown within the snippet (should have done it outside the snippet). And, I decided to Bold it with a <b> <center>Select Quantity</center>.

What is missing is the </b> and all text on the page below that was bolded regardless of how I set it in the text.

Also, I have noticed if I change text inside a text box and publish, it does not render the change unless I slightly move the text box and then return it to its original position. This can be seen in the publish time if that is all that has be done.

Thank you for your help,

Oliver

The HTML5 specs say that <b></b> should only be used as a last resort. Important words are emphasised using the <strong></strong> tag and bold should be implemented by using the font-weight selector in the styles.

Once you finish entering/altering text in a box, click on free space outside of the box - or select another object - to ensure that the change registers.

This, of course, is not the case. Publish - as distinct from Preview - means to publish the website files to either the EverWeb server or another server via FTP or to a local folder.

A text description - even with screenshots - is not in most cases sufficient to diagnose a problem. When trying to troubleshoot, it's a good idea to duplicate the problem page, uncheck the box to exclude it from the navigation, publish it and post the URL here.

I spend quite a lot of time each day answering emails from EverWeb users who either don't want to post in a public forum or don't want to link to their site for all to see. In most cases, I have to email back with a request for a URL before I can help in any way.

I have two monitors. The left on has either Safari or Firefox window showing depending on which one I select. Both are showing the page I'm working on, which is stored on my hard drive. On my right monitor I have open EverWeb and as I am editing a page I click on the "Publish" button, which updates the files on my hard drive and then I refresh the web browsers to see what the changes look like. This is the same way I did it in iWeb.

Once I have completed my updates, I use my SEO tool to add tags etc and then I "publish" from there, which uploads the changes to my hosting account.

I have never used the "Preview" button, for I already have the page I'm working on open in my browsers.

There's no need to add tags in SEO Tool. These are added in EverWeb in the Page inspector.
