Preview shows all possible .APP options

User: Peter B. 11 years ago
hi

Lately when I use the PREVIEW from the bottom of the program ( See attachment ) I get to see list of possible browsers, even when they are not installed.

Chrome.App
Firefox.App
Safari
Opera.app

( the browsers with the .APP behind them are not installed, never have been )

Hi Pater

I assume that you have checked your Applications folder in case? If so, what happens when you try to preview with these phantom browsers? Do you get an error message? And looking at the screen shot I guess you are on 1.7.3?

Hi Simon,

The applications folder does not contain any browser other then Safari.
The MBP is brand new and installed from scratch, so was EverWeb.

Evenweb is version 1.7.5 but I have seen this since 1.7.3 and perhaps even earlier versions.

It's a list of popular browsers.

Just that.

A list of popular browsers.

Someone decided to make a list of popular browsers.

Just that.

A list of popular browsers.

Nothing to get nervous about.

One essential that is missing from the screenshot is the iOS Simulator. Even if you don't have a smart phone version of your website, you need to test your full site on the iPad. Judging by the poor performance of many EverWeb users sites I have looked at, they are not testing on a tablet.

The most common flaws are inadequately sized links and other user controls and the use of hovers with no click option. The EverWeb default navigation is suitable for use on iPad but the navigation block height needs to be increased to at least 32px. All user inputs should be at least 32 x 32px and text hyperlinks should have at least 8px top and bottom padding added to them.

I'll look into the list of browsers showing up when they shouldnt. I'm not sure why that happens at the moment though.

It's a good reminder to those who don't know that they should test in as many browsers as possible!

Its kind of pointless testing only in Safari for desktop since it is only used by a small minority. Test in Firefox and Chrome. Just about anything that works in Chrome will be fine in Safari.

Get some info about browser usage and you will see why you should test in Chrome and then in Firefox.

Read the bottom of that page and take it to heart- Statistics Can Be Misleading. Know how computers/devices work to estimate better statistics and READ READ READ. Figure out how the statistics were compiled. Also think about business and how browsers can be manipulated to get higher stats.

It is crazy to me how many use Chrome. I guess reading EULAs is for old people like me.
