Basic formatted site

User: Carol Ann L. 11 years ago
I wold like to be able to save a basic format that I have created for my website, either adding, changing or deleting whatever I choose from that basic format as needed. I tried saving this basic format by pressing the "option" button on my MacBook Pro so that I could save it as "save as." Then each time I needed to change a page design or create an entirely new website, I could pull up this basic design format and work from there. Is there any way I could do this?

Thank you.

If I understand correctly, check out this page, especially the bottom part.

I followed the directions of the last paragraph as you suggested as I thought this was exactly the answer I was looking for. However, now I cannot find the template either in the Projects Window nor in the drop down Template menu in the Inspector. I changed the extension to .ewtheme and dragged the file into the Templates folder it's gone into never, never land. Help!

Hmmm. I just tried it and now I have a new Template to use. I made a regular page and named it, saved, renamed extension, moved to Template folder, then I restarted EW. Now the new Template has that page name. If you did it making a Master page, try making a regular page and doing it. Also check again after things have been shut down and restarted. Other than that I do not know.

Saving a project with as a theme is not working at the moment since themes were extended with new features. So just changing the extension will not work. We are working on a better solution though.

I am using a MacBook Pro and I opened the file on disk from the Projects Menu named "Template" that I had previously created. Then I clicked on the disk file and duplicated the file, leaving the original extension intact. I then re-opened EverWeb and in the Projects Window, there appeared two "Template" files. I chose the duplicate and opened it. I immediately renamed it to another file name. I now have a work-in-progress file leaving my "Template" file intact for future use. It's a round-about solution but it works. I would prefer to just press a button to bring up a menu that would say "Save As" and save the file to a new name leaving the original intact. Much cleaner and simpler.
