Despite countless threads on the topic, I'm still baffled as to what exactly EverWeb does and why? Is there a video tutorial on the subject? I didn't see one. I thought only images that were altered in EW (with opacity changes, borders, rotation, etc.) were duped and re-saved. But now I see that a png which I sized externally and compressed with a photoshop plugin has been seriously bloated in size. My file, which includes an srgb colour space by the way, is 91 KB. It is not resized or anything on the canvas. EW blew it up to 273 KB. The @2x version on my desktop is 303KB. Everweb's... 895 KB! You can find it on this page. As others have pointed out, this is supposed to be a WYSIWYG app. But guess what? I'm going to spend the next few hours stripping my images and adding them back with html snippets instead. We can't wait around for the next update, and the next, and then the next, for these basic things to be implemented... such as every image on the master page being duped and stored in a new subfolder for each page. It's too time-consuming for us to have to go back and make the changes after the fact. Why didn't you guys plan ahead for things like this? ------------------------------- rMBP 15", 2.6 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, OS X 10.11.6, with 27" Thunderbolt Cinema Display www.cleetche.com |

Open up your optimized image in preview (the one you exported from Photoshop). Go to Tools menu-> Assign Profile and select any profile. See what happens to your optimized PNG image. It will be roughly the same size as when you export from EverWeb. EverWeb insures your images look the same on all devices and browsers. Quote: Why didn't you guys plan ahead for things like this? We did, but when we don't include the color profile we get complaints that the images look different when published. When we do, we get complaints that the images are too large. Most users are not aware of the complications of making a website fully compatible with all browsers and devices. Including too many options and pleasing everyone makes the software very complicated. For every feature you think is "basic" or for every issue you may think should be there, there is likely an unintended consequence or side effect to implementing it. There is almost always a reason for implementing something a certain way even if it may look like it doesn't make sense. I am working on making PNG images respect the use color profile preference for version 1.8 though and will possibly add a PNG optimize option as well. The second option will slow down publishing though. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

Okay first of all, am I to understand that EW currently strips imported images of their colour profile before adding one back? I'm trying to understand why images that already have a colour profile assigned to them would need another one? The files I indicated above already had an srgb colour profile as well as a much smaller file size than what EW produced. Interestingly enough though, some of the duped images from EW were way smaller!
