Dear all, I am considering buying a new MacBook Pro with Retina display. What do I need to know in order to create websites with EW. I understand that the images require extra handling. What exactly needs to be done and how do I handle that? I am sure the info is here somewhere but I don't have much luck finding it...:) Many thanks in advance... ------------------------------- Yelena MacBook Pro OS X 10.10.3 IMac 21" OS X 10.10.3 |

If you're talking about using a rMBP to build your sites, you don't need to do anything different. EverWeb is optimized quite nicely for retina and everything looks great on it. I have the 15" 2012 rMPB and I love it. I use it mostly in clamshell mode though as my 27" display provides more working space. Whenever I switch back and forth (sometimes working on the laptop in the living room), I always quit EverWeb first and then relaunch on the laptop. The graphics switching sometimes is off. If, on the other hand, you're talking about optimizing your sites for retina, I'm sure there's lots to read up on here. I think EW produces a second @2x image automatically. I've just been in the habit of importing two images for everything anyway: image.jpg and image@2x.jpg (twice the size). ------------------------------- rMBP 15", 2.6 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, OS X 10.11.6, with 27" Thunderbolt Cinema Display www.cleetche.com |

Thank you, Christopher. I did mean handling of images. If EW produces a retina version automatically it would be great! I just don't want any extra work....:)

I use macbook pro 13 inch and like it a lot. As for which computer you use, it does not matter how you handle images with it. If you are happy with the way images display on your website now, keep doing what you are doing already. If when you look at your website using a retina display and are not happy with the way things look, you will want to explore image handling. I have found images all look good on a variety of modern device screens and I only upload 1 image, not the @2x |

I was confused by your title. You definitely want to optimize your site for retina, not just because you want to buy a rMBP but because that's the future and it's already here. The iMac's just went retina and there's talk of the next MBAir being retina too. I'm 95% sure that EW produces the duplicate image (I'm sure you can just search this forum). But it's not going to increase the dimensions of your image because that would only decrease its quality. You'd have to be dropping in images that are at least twice the size of it's intended design. I prepare all my images externally. So for a picture that's going to be 800px wide on the EW canvas, you need your master image to be at least 1600px wide. You can start by preparing that way. I'm sure Paul will weigh in soon to tell you exactly what EW does and how it handles images for retina... if you haven't already read it on another post.
