I have noticed that the color picker often gives you a much darker color than expected. Does EasyWeb force web safe colors or is something else going on?

EasyWeb uses the color that you pick.

Here's a screenshot of a rectangle with the color picker showing the hex number...

... and here's the code in the published files...

<div style="position:relative"><div style="left:351px;top:983px;height:126px;width:318px;background-color:[color=#FF0000:18nxv2ip]#3119FF[/color:18nxv2ip];z-index: 11;position: absolute"></div></div>
</div>

The color number is the same.

And have you done this with the color picker?

I never use the spyglass since its not accurate. I always use hex color numbers as they are a lot easier than RGB.

Take a snapshot of a known color in iWeb and see what the color picker comes up with!

iWeb the magnify or "spy glass" worked pretty well depending on the the color pallet you were in.

I just added two new pallets to my system color picker which is working much better even with the magnify glass.

Set up an object with a color and note its number. Now snap the color and see what the number (and the swatch color) changes to in the color window.

It really doesn't matter what the color looks like in the application - its how it renders in the browser that is important.

If I were forced to explain web safe colors I would say that they are ones that a web designer knows from experience will work well in a given web page scenario.

I have seen many a heated topic where artists and photographers cursed iWeb for not faithfully reproducing their masterpieces. They prove the point that, just because you can design a website without bothering to learn the basics of web design, doesn't mean to say you should.

Browsers read numbers - not color palettes. Subtle shades have no place in web design. They are best left to those whose end product goes to print.

When I say that I use hex numbers that is not strictly true. When designing stylesheets I use three digit numbers since they are easy to learn and I can hold them in what's left of my brain. If you think this might cramp your style, have a look at what's available...

Hex color picker is free and a lot of people are aware of it judging by the number of hits I get on this page...

Though, I vaguely remember having one or both of them in an earlier OS. Mountain Lion was a clean install for me "this time around"

I am not saying that the color picker "magnify glass, spy glass" is right, wrong or indifferent. I was merely mentioning the fact that is seems to be picking colors that are about 20 to 30% darker in EasyWeb as compared to iWeb. That's all. I am not looking to be "Right" here Roddy. It's not a competition.

You would need to let Paul give the explanation about the way EasyWeb pages are rendered in the app.

All I'm saying is that the color sampler has no place in web design because it isn't accurate. The degree of lack of accuracy doesn't really matter.

Web design is based on code which highly accurate. I agree that EasyWeb does sample colors darker than iWeb but the point is that both are inaccurate and shouldn't be used for matching colors because they can't. If you want to exactly match colors on a website, use the numbers.

Here's the iWeb one in action...

I don't know why you keep bringing up this "competition" and" right" stuff. Perhaps other people will read this and learn that they can't match colors in the way you are trying to - not in web design anyway.

The color picker is a cross application feature and the only relevant windows for web design are the RGB one - if you are into math - and the hex color one - if installed.

I think the question should be raised as to why all these web design apps (and EW in particular) don't have a hex color picker installed!

We're looking into issues on why the color is not being displayed properly in EasyWeb.
