Regarding New Update 1.7 - Maybe time to move on from Everweb

User: Alan M. 9 years ago
Well, I downloaded the new update... it said before downloading it that "none of my work will be lost", something like that.
So I assumed it meant nothing will be changed either - but I was wrong on that. Upon opening my site to check it out in the new EW, I noticed ALL my hyper links are now defaulting to underlined! What in the world made you default to that? Geez! It should default to what I have in my site to begin with!!

So now I have over 5000 hyperlinks I have to fix to "not-underlined!". And now more waisted time with EW as well as the usual publishing problems I have within the built in FTP in EW, having to use Filezilla instead, which I hate.

I still make small adjustments on my one and only remaining iWeb site and it is real fast in publishing just the site changes, unlike EW, which takes half a day even with Filezilla and will freeze if I try to use the built in FTP.

I HATE waisting time! Now I must waist time repairing all my hyper links to the way I had them in the first place...man I'm pissed.

Maybe time to move on from EW - just too much frustration dealing with the updates changing things I had originally in my site before the update. (this is not the first time).

Frustrated...

I'm very sorry for these issues.

Unfortunately this is a bug that we haven't been able to track down yet.

EverWeb will only publish changed files, though your first publish may require the whole site to be published. It still checks all pages, but only changed pages and files are actually published.

We're still working on improving this.

Again, sorry for the problems and we hope you stay with EverWeb. We're working to fix and improve these issues.

This concerns me. I have lots of links on my website, and different styles for different places on the website, but often without underlines. It would be really annoying to have to go through all the hyperlinks all over my site and change them every time an update comes. Updates should not change the settings you already have on your site!
User: Paul-RAGESW 9 years ago
@J Lee: Have you tried opening your site in EverWeb to see if this happens?

You can open a backup, or not save it to see if occurs for you.

@Alan: If you can send your website project to us, I can take a look (send to customer support from the support menu at the top).

In the Projects window in EverWeb, click the arrow on the right next to your website and select the 'Show On Disk' option.

**DO NOT move this file from this location on your computer**

Please compress the project file before sending it to me by right clicking on it and selecting Compress. You can upload it at http://ge.tt or http://www.dropbox.com and send the link to me.

Make sure to describe the problem you are experiencing when you send your email.

I hear you Alan, I think it is time to move on as well
User: Paul-RAGESW 9 years ago
I understand you are frustrated with this and I am trying to help. If you want to move on, I understand but we are also willing to help solve these issues.

Some of these issues only affect a small amount of users so it is difficult to fix them when we cannot reproduce it.

Move on to what?
The link underline is happening with me too, although I don't have thousands of links it'll be a pain, but guess it could be worse.

Hopefully Paul & Co will get it fixed.

Paul, I don't know what you can do to the project except fix all the links that are underlined...but I would rather do that myself, or go back to previous version until the bug is figured out. But I think that since they are all changed now, that going back would still keep links underlined as the master file has been changed.

Yes, move on to what is the question of the day... It is a great product but very frustrating at times. I have a few more sites planned to build, but a bit gun shy now on pulling the trigger on starting them.

I did the support thing with the publishing problem and they could never upload my site via built in FTP either, it just froze up. So we just gave up on that. Its filezilla still for me now... I got a bit spoliled by iWebs built in FTP.

Hi Alan,

Your project file will help me reproduce the issue because it does not affect everyone.

The links being underlined was a side affect of fixing the bug where the underline settings in the default styles didn't work. So it was not random.

What is the ticket id of the ftp publishing issues?

Previous Ticket #671311 - Publishing Problems

Paul, to send my site file via Dropbox, what is the name, email or whatever to send to you?
I have not fixed the links yet as I have other stuff to do - so I can go ahead and send it to you now before I adjust it.

Thanks,

Alan

Alan, I responded to your ticket. It looks like the last response to you was waiting for you to email us back which we never heard back from. Anyways, I provided a solution that I think will work based on the issues you described. I also told you where you can send your project too.

For other people that come here and have publishing frozen, you need to try unselecting the Passive connection option under the Publishing tab in the Preferences (version 1.7 or later). The technical reason that it freezes in some cases is because the web host does not have certain passive ports opened. Passive ports are chosen differently by each FTP client and can be somewhat random so it can freeze and different parts of the upload. The above option should fix it.

To be honest, whilst this is a seriously frustrating bug for me and is wasting a lot of time…..I still really like EW. As a person with limited experience and no major budgets to spend on web design agencies , EW has let me keep my websites exactly as I want them. I'm just really glad someone carried on from iWeb. I've tried just about every program out here and (for me) EW is still the best by far. If the blogging feature comes on line it will be like Xmas for me. Also, the support and quick response time in this forum is far better than ANY company I deal with. So, as frustrated as I am….. if this program wasn't out there I wouldn't have a website.

Yes EW is one of the best out there for sure...As far as the blog, I just upload Wordpress to my site. The blog on iWeb got me gun shy about an EW version. iWeb blog was invisible to search engines. All java script. Hope EW does not do that trick.
