An image without a caption is like a book without a title. Adding alt text will help to get the image indexed by the search engines but the addition of a descriptive caption allows more keywords to be used. Adding a caption in a text box is useless as the search engine spiders don't know that the text is related to the image. Far too often, images are included in a web page with no descriptive caption for the visitor to get a clue as to the relevance of the image to the rest of the page content. How often do you see a photo of a person, or people, and no clue as to who they are and what they have to do with the anything! The HTML5 figure element is designed to provide a container for an image and a figcaption element for the descriptive text so that the spiders know that the text in the figcaption is related to the image. It also helps add interest to the page from the visitor's point of view and they don't have to search the text content to find out what the image is about. The Image Figcaption widget provides an easy way to insert an image with caption in a figure element along with alt text and a caption. The image can have a border and box shadow to provide visual separation from the rest of the page content. It can also be a hyperlink and this can be set to open in a new window if required.
