How to publish using FTP (Fetch)

User: Pete V. 9 years ago
Where can I find a step-by-step process for uploading my EverWeb website? Where is the file after clicking "Publish"? Is there an index file? I use Fetch for uploading to my site that is hosted by 1&1.

If you want to publish to a local folder and upload with an FTP application you need to set up the local folder and then choose that as the publishing method in the Site Publishing Settings page. Get to it by clicking the site name at the top of the left column in EverWeb.

There is an index.html file. This is the file for your Home page.

Every directory also has an index.html file and this can be set up as a redirect to the first actual page as described here…

I understand most of your reply and almost none of what's in the link. I have set up a local folder. It contains several files. Which of those do I upload to the FTP application (Fetch)? I have a screenshot (.png) of the folder and its contents, but I can't seem to attach it to this reply.

Also, did you know that double clicking on almost anything on my new web page causes EverWeb t crash?

Sorry to pile on, but I finally got my new EverWeb site published online. The problem is that the fonts, text size and text box size are not as seen on the EverWeb page design screen, nor are the same as seen in the Preview or in the "Visit Site Now". What am I not getting?

There's a folder named ew_css which contains a file textstyles.css. Make sure you upload this every time you publish changes to the site.

Roddy, I am having a similar problem. I removed all of the old files and folders on the FTP site where my iWeb site was located, then tried to publish to FTP to the same FTP directory and only half the files and folders loaded up, and most of the site was unworkable. I then deleted those from the FTP site using Fetch, went back to Everweb and published to a local folder, then uploaded all the published files/folders to the FTP site. this time, the site worked properly. I then Erased all the files on the FTP site and tried again to publish directly to FTP in Everweb. Same problems as the first time. I would like to get the direct to FTP publishing working so that I am not having to publish the entire site every time I change something.

Did I accidentally remove files/folders that are critical to allowing Everweb to properly publish directly to the FTP server. If so, what are they and how to I recreate them? If l were to public to a local folder and upload those files via Fetch as I did the first time, can I then publish incremental changes via Everweb directly to FTP/

Why don't you try re-upload the site via FTP so that it is working properly and then switch to the EverWeb built in FTP? That way you will make sure all the files are uploaded.

I made some minor changes and tried to do a "publish changes" directly to FTP via Everweb, but the changes didn't appear to take. In order to get the site up and running, I reverted to re-publishing the entire site to local folder then to the FTP site via Fetch.
I would very much like to figure out how I can revert to publishing changes directly to FTP. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Now that you have the site published, try switching to the built in FTP but don't delete the files you have already uploaded.

Did you enter the correct directory/path in EverWeb? You need to find this out from your web hosting provider. If this isn't entered correctly, you won't see the changes online.

I am also having this problem. Making minor changes and they aren't showing after publishing to FTP. What am I doing wrong?
User: Roddy 9 years ago
First of all, make sure that the changes have actually taken place. For example, when you update some text in an existing box, make sure you click off the box before publishing.

After publishing to the server, you need to make sure the files are being downloaded from the server and not the browser cache. You can do this by emptying the browser cache or adding a ? to the end of the URL or hitting the refresh button a few times.

Did you see my reply about the Directory/Path field? Have you checked with your web hosting provider and gotten the correct directory/path?

It has corrected now. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
Just another thing. I have master pages with links to my facebook page which works on all pages (using the same master page) apart from 2 of them . What do I do to correct this?
