Problems using the everweb html snippit widget

User: Tessa L. 9 years ago
Hi. I am currently trying to recreate (and hopefully improve) my business' iweb site in everweb. (to see the old iweb site please go to www.rapidrunnerexpeditions.com)

As part of my site i need to use quite a few 3rd part widgets from places like Tripadvisor & Facebook.

On the old iweb site this was an easy process. Pasting the 3rd party provided html code into the included iweb html snippit widget, always worked and i could immediately see the size and image of the widget on the iweb interface as well as working without any issues on the published site. This was perfect!

I am now trying to do the same process with Everweb's included html snippit widget. However, i am getting lots of problems. For example one of the 4 Tripadvisor widgets i want to use, should look like this (see attachment TA1.tiff) but instead is showing on the everweb interface as this (see attachment TA2.tiff). When i have tried to view it using the preview button (on any of the browsers) it still looks like it does on the everweb interface (TA2) or in some cases doesnt show up at all.
The code for this particular example is:

<div id="TA_percentRecommended947" class="TA_percentRecommended">
<ul id="2oeroIT" class="TA_links L4EhYImI7yC0">
<li id="2EMsQ7" class="NXiqxjM1W">
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/"><img src="http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/img2/widget/logo_shadow_109x26.png" alt="TripAdvisor" class="widPERIMG" id="CDSWIDPERLOGO"/></a>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
<script src="http://www.jscache.com/wejs?wtype=percentRecommended&amp;uniq=947&amp;locationId=1943017&amp;lang=en_UK&amp;border=true&amp;backgroundColor=white&amp;display_version=2"></script>

Please can someone tell me what i am doing wrong. Does the code need splitting up? and if so where does it need to go?

Thanks in advance!

It works OK for me. It looks like this in EverWeb and when published…

ok thats strange. I am currently out in Nepal, where we have shockingly slow broadband. Could this be the cause?

That could be the problem since the widget is having to load the code from another server.

ok so i have checked on a faster connection and it is still not working. I found an old thread (http://billing.ragesw.com/forum.php?act=thread&tid=669&p=2) about a similar issue with facebook buttons, and there was mention that the code that the social media site is giving needs editing to work in everweb. Roddy helpfully provided a walkthrough on how to deal with the code but this the link to this help does not work anymore. Can someone help?

The Facebook codes don't have the "http:" in the IRLs so you have to add this to get it to work locally on your Mac.

The code you posted above works fine locally without any modification. Perhaps there's something else on the page breaking it. You would need to publish the page to the server and give us the URL so that we can look at the page code.
