Moving pages loses stuff

Here's the scene: The menu has nine selections. #1 - One opens a page of 40 photos with a link at the bottom of each page to the next page of photos. There are 16 pages in all. This menu is for a single event that happened. #2 - Another has a dropdown of 8 events, each with its own set of photo pages, linked one to the next. I want to take this single event from #1 and move it to the drop down menu so it becomes the ninth. I can't drag the directory page because that won't show in the dropdown list. I can't duplicate the directory page as a regular page and then move them all under #2 because that won't work. Then I did something I forgot and the event showed under #2 but trying to link from the first to second photo page didn't work because none of the pages showed up in the asset list. Yeah, I'm doing something stupid.
