Paul - Request some thought be given later to directories for the asset list. With lots of photos the list can get unwieldy quickly. Being able to put the assets in a directory named for the actual page would clean everything up real well. Using some of Roddy's widgets require tagging assets and if they are not named well it can be a chore hunting around. Just a suggestion when everything is done and you're hunting for more to do :-) ------------------------------- MrCourtney - Honolulu, HI -------------------------------------- Mac Studio - dial monitors; iMac 27 5K - Dual Monitors - 10 TB hub Alienware: Area 51 - 24 gb - Dual Monitors - All SSD 25 TB network storage |

With EverWeb V 1.5, all the files in the Assets column are arranged in alphanumeric order in the list that pops up when you click the Choose button in a widget. Images should be given descriptive file names for SEO anyway - with hyphens between the words - just like any other page or file name. Images for sliders should be named logically as described HERE under "Preparing The Images". ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! I understand. I submit that in most web design software I use - different directories are used for a set or group of pages. My case in point is I'm populating a school reunion website. So far there have been close to a dozen major events, each with 100 or more pictures. The latest photos belong to one specific event and are simply for people to look at and relive the event in their mind. Captions were not requested nor desired by the client so I stay with the name of the original photo. Without the ability to segment them by event I have a very long asset list. I understand EverWeb does it differently and you have every right to do the program as you see fit. It's just that in some circumstances that asset list, as it is, can be difficult to work with. Thanks for your response. I should point out that I don't having anything to do with the development of the EverWeb application so, in this respect, I am a user like yourself. Some means of organizing assets into folders has been requested almost since day one and I'm sure that if it was straightforward it would have be implemented by now! When I started the EverWeb Codebox site I decided to publish to a server other than the EverWeb one simply because of the large number of assets required. This allows me to use separate folders for the assets for each project if needed. The downside to this is there is absolutely no preview in EverWeb so it can be a little frustrating and require a certain degree of clairvoyance to achieve this. In your case, a better solution may be to create the slideshow for each event on a separate project file and publish this as a sub site. Then you can use an iframe code to insert the slideshow on the parent website. That way, all you are dealing with in the Assets List is the images for one event. Here's an example of the iframe widget being used to insert an accordion slider into a page… http://everwebcodebox.com/widgetbox/basic-widgets/iframe.html ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! I manage all of my images, logos and pictures in iPhoto and organise them in Themes, Faces, Places and Folders and embedded Albums or sub- Albums. In EverWeb I use the Media Browser (main EverWeb window bottom right icon; or main menu > Window > Media Browser). This opens your iPhoto library in every detail that you have organized it. From this Media Browser I drag the images that I need into the EverWeb pages or into any image widget. I never look in the Assets list. I know that all images that I use in EverWeb are copied in there. But I don't care - and never clean it up... Last edit 11 years ago |

I don't know why better Asset Management is not at the top of the to-do list. We need folders, subfolders, and the ability to select more than one file at a time. Instead of implementing new features, we need the simple things to just work! This, and the HTML Snippet previews. Please and thank you :)

Better asset management is coming. These features should be available for version 1.8. We haven't yet implemented folders and sub folders for it though. Quote: This, and the HTML Snippet previews. If you have a problem with HTML Snippets, please point me to a thread or start a new one on this. I don't currently see any issues with HTML Snippets ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |
