Using Beta Software

Just a gentle reminder to people who may not have experience with "beta" software. This is software that has not been fully tested. It's offered to people if they would like to help test it to find any bugs that were missed in in-house testing. Beta, by definition, is software that is not ready for general release. There can - and most likely will - be problems. Some minor, some major. Using beta software on any live or production website is a gamble. Anything, including losing your entire site, is possible in a worse case situation. Coding is complex and difficult and that's why you "beta test" before rolling out a general release version of any program. If you are not willing to chase down and report bugs and know how to recover from problems, always leave the beta testing to others and wait for the official release of any software. We all love to jump on new versions of any program, especially if it provides something we've been waiting for. A new beta version might provide that but it also comes with risks. Rage does a great job of testing in-house before putting a beta out for others to test. No test will find all bugs so the more people that pound on a beta version the better it will be. It's best to leave that to those who understand the risks and have the time and temperament to fix what blows up. ------------------------------- MrCourtney - Honolulu, HI -------------------------------------- Mac Studio - dial monitors; iMac 27 5K - Dual Monitors - 10 TB hub Alienware: Area 51 - 24 gb - Dual Monitors - All SSD 25 TB network storage |

Courtney, you beat me to the punch here! The 1.6 beta is a great reminder for us all that we are fortunate to get beta software to try out but should never forget that it is what it is... Beta! So, the 'released' version of EverWeb should always be used if anyone is working in a production/live environment. Agree 100% with you here Courtney, good words, and yes I'd like to say this too.. Paul and the crew at Rage have done a fantastic job over the last couple of years getting EverWeb out to market then continually providing regular update s and features as the product evolves. We as EverWeb users are in a really privileged position to have direct contact and input with the team! I have to remind myself sometimes how lucky I am to be abler to have my questions and requests listened to by the developers, a rare thing these days! To Paul and all the guys and gals involved in EverWeb thanks and keep up the good, no GREAT, work! Simon |

Thank you guys. I've been beta testing (sometimes alpha) since the Commodore 64. I still get crazy when people jump on a beta and complain about problems. Duh... +1 about Paul and all of Rage.
