Viewing <h1>Headers & SE Intelligence

<h1>Headers & SE Intelligence

User: MacDavidson 9 years ago
Hi, this is probably a question for Roddy, however if anyone else can answer this thats great.
I appear to have successfully used Roddy's Widget to enter h1-h3 keywords on my site, however, when I use SEIntelligence, it tells me that there are no headings on my site.
Is this SEIntelligence not picking the headings up or is it that the headings are not working.
I look forward to your replies.

These are the headings on your page.

Can you explain where the content is, these headings are the heading of?

There isn't any. The headings are totally useless.

Headings are used to structure a webpage.

EW pages are not structured. They are simply a collection of objects dropped on the canvas and then re-arranged. They have no relation to other objects.

http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_headings.asp
http://www.hobo-web.co.uk/headers/
http://www.makingwebsites.info/headings-and-paragraphs.htm

And why do you need a widget when you can type the characters yourself in a HTML Snippet.

<h1>Driving Lessons Dalkeith</h1>

<h4>Driving Lessons Duncoon</h4>

<h1>Driving Lessons Edigburgh</h1>

<h2>Driving Lessons Prestonpans</h2>

And if you use them, try to be consistent.

And for the SEO obsessed :

BTW, h1-h6 are HTML elements, not keywords.

One of the problems with drag and drop style editors is that it allows users to create a web page by just dragging stuff onto the design canvas and moving it around to create a suitable layout with no regard to the positioning of the elements correctly in the HTML.

An example of this would be if the page was designed and then it was realized that the h2 page name had been omitted. No problem, just drag all the other stuff down the page and put in the heading where it belongs!

Not so. This heading - which should be near the top of the HTML doc is lurking about almost at the bottom. Web designers create a wireframe - or at least a rough sketch - of a page layout before they even open their web design app. Very few people who use D 'n D seem to adopt this logical approach.

Using an app like EverWeb every item on the page is contained in a couple of divs which have no actual meaning to the search engine spiders. The least we can do to help them out is to place the items in a meaningful order in the HTML doc.

With the advent of HTML5, truly semantic markup is now possible using the new tags and allow experienced coders to add microdata to supply the crawlers with even more info.

For example, blog posts should be contained within the <article> tag and can have their own header with h1 and <time> tag. Related content would go in the < aside> and source info and the © notice in the article's own footer.

Images should go into the <figure> element so that they can be captioned using the <figcaption>. I don't know if the forthcoming EW Blog is going to use these tags but I hope so!

Since I am now using CSS3 in widgets such as the new Animation Widgets, I "figure" it would be OK to start using the HTML5 tags in widgets like THIS one since the animations won't work in decrepit browsers anyway.

I'm also working on some widgets which use these new tags to create more semantic markup for other items but I keep getting sidetracked by creating stuff like wind powered spinning headers with multi gradient rainbow style backgrounds.

If you know all that, why do you promote and sell the widget if you know very well it is useless.

Do you rely on the ignorance of the user and hope they won't notice?

My impression is that you and Ragesw are a racket to sell crap software with you selling the widgets to compensate for the missing features that should be part of EW in the first place.

Lucky for you, your target audience does not notice.

And for those who do not know what a structured webpage is and what h1-h6 is about, have a look here :

http://trotter.is-best.net/zen/

The page has no formatting, no colors, no style.

When you read from top to bottom, the page still makes sense.

BTW, do not click the links. They lead nowhere.

When you add style, the page will look like this :

http://trotter.is-best.net/zen/zen.html

Now you can click the links.

Using the basic structure of the webpage, you can create different looks with your own css stylesheet.

Also, when you resize the browserwindow in a desktopbrowser, the webpage reformats. It's what they call, responsive.

On mobile devices, other than rotating the device, the webpage cannot be resized and will adjust to the screensize.

Oh, and do not forget to demand your money back.

The widget allows the user to create a hierarchy for the spiders to follow if the headings are positioned correctly in the HTML doc..

This is not the first time you have insulted both Rage software and EverWeb users and you still haven't answered the question as to why you bother to use the software or troll these forums if that is your impression.

Here's some recommended reading for you so that you can improve on your trolling skills and take them to some other forum where they may be more appreciated…

I just wrote a long comment which for some reason I lost, so here is the short version;

Jumbo T; Thank you for your reply, however, if I gave you a few hours to learn Farsi, then asked you a few questions, if you don't know or answer incorrectly, should I call you ignorant? Your personal communication skills could be doing with a brush up to avoid sounding more superior than others. If of course you are more superior then I admire your ability and hope in future you can assist 'ignorant' people like me. I would have lost my business during the recession without the affordable software and advice from not only RageSW, but people like Roddy too. Roddy's 'Simple Apps' are beyond my understanding or 'want to understand', therefore if I can buy an App for $2-$3 then thats what I will do & I thank him for it.

Roddy, Thank you for your answer and my sincere apology at the verbal insult you received as a result.

So to answer my question; I should remove my <h1> headers and put them into sentences, e.g. If you are a beginner and are looking for <h1>driving lessons in musselburgh</h1> then look no further... Etc... Is my understanding correct?

There is a page where I have attempted to explain the hierarchy of HTML headings on the EverWeb Codebox site…

http://everwebcodebox.com/layout/headings.html

There's also a basic HTML doc layout here…

http://everwebcodebox.com/code/html.html

We are quite used to Jumbo T's rude and condescending attitude by now and just treat it with the contempt it deserves. You will of course notice his penchant for criticizing and condemning others while not actually producing a website of his own to illustrate his superior skills.

I did the EverWeb Codebox site last year for those who are willing to learn about creating objects using EW's code injection. After that I started creating widgets since it was obvious that the majority of EverWeb user just want to create a website and don't have time to learn code. Some of the widgets that he so readily scorns will create slideshows and media players in a few minutes. I have seen iWeb users struggle with the code for these same features for days and fail. I'm sure that most would agree that 50 cents is not a high price to pay for something that saves hours of learning.
