Justified text

Is there a way to set the text in a text box to align as "Justified", without having to pay for more widgets? This was so easy with iWeb, and I was quite surprised that Everweb does not have this as a standard option, given that the majority of professional looking sites use this simple form of presentation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Justified text is not considered good design for a number of reasons. You can find out why HERE. If you really want to inflict this on your website visitors there's a free widget available from this page. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Thankyou Roddy for the reply, and for the links. Why is something so simple, not offered as standard in Everweb, given that Everweb is said to offer all that iWeb had and more? |

Roddy I have purchased and downloaded the widgets you suggested. Unfortunately a message pops up at the installation of each, stating that this beta version has expired. Once Everweb is re-opened (after completely closing), the widgets do not show as having been installed. Any ideas please? |

Just because iWeb offered a feature doesn't mean to say that every other web design app should! You need to remember that iWeb was developed from Apple's DTP software so, although some of the features may be relevant to print media, they have no place in web design. With regard to the widget installation problem, what version of EW are you using? Make sure you have a release version such as 1.4 or 1.5. You shouldn't need to quit EverWeb to install widgets - just close the application window. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Thanks for the reply Roddy. I genuinely appreciate the assistance, even if I am a little surprised at what I am finding. You wrote: Quote: Just because iWeb offered a feature doesn't mean to say that every other web design app should! I thought that was up to each of us to use Everweb as a creative tool. It sounds like a very opinionated statement to say it has "no place in web design", and seems odd that you wouldn't give users the option. Quote: It sounds like a very opinionated statement to say it has "no place in web design" That is my personal opinion since using a technique like this causes readability problems. How can making life difficult for a significant percentage of your potential visitors be good design practice? Why would you want to make your web page text content almost unreadable for some and difficult for others? Although this IS my personal opinion, it is widely held. If a client insists on justified text, the designer should only resort to using it after educating them about the pitfalls. THIS article is as good as any in outlining why justification is just not justified in web design!. Quote: , and seems odd that you wouldn't give users the option I am not denying anybody the option to use justified text since I don't work for Rage. I can only say that I totally agree with their decision to omit this feature for the reasons I have given. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! I'll weigh in on this as a regular person. I avoid justified text as often as I can, no matter where it is. I am an avid reader and have been since three years old. I have always considered justified text as a tool for lazy editors. Justified text makes no sense to me in our modern world. If I land on a website using it, I leave immediately. My eye picks up patterns way to easily to be constantly distracted while trying to read it. On top of that, I find myself thinking those that use it care more about margins than spelling and grammar.

I'd like to add to this thread... The best example I can think of is just because you can put 50 different fonts on one page, you really don't want to. Good design says limit it to 3 - and two is better. Things just look better when design rules are followed. ------------------------------- MrCourtney - Honolulu, HI -------------------------------------- Mac Studio - dial monitors; iMac 27 5K - Dual Monitors - 10 TB hub Alienware: Area 51 - 24 gb - Dual Monitors - All SSD 25 TB network storage |
