Mobile site issues.

User: Susan S. 11 years ago
Is it possible to give the mobile people a choice to use the mobile site or full site? Is there a way I could put that option on the mobile site? Or a work around? The owner of the biz HATES mobile sites.

Thanks,

Susan

One way is to create the mobile site as a sub domain (or a sub folder) with no redirect code.
Then put a hyperlink button on the pages of the conventional site which have an equivalent mobile version.

Go to this page to read about the method…

… and click the wifi icon to get to the mobile version.

Let me ask you this question... in Everweb when I click that button that says to set up a mobile site, does that put the redirect code on every single page of the site or just on the first page of the site?

If it's on the first page only, why couldn't I just made a duplicate first page? The "real" first page would send them to the mobile site and then if they get there and they don't like the mobile version, they can click a button on the mobile site to go back to the "duplicate first page and would connect to the rest of the site from there?

Here are my reasons for that. NO one at the business wants to "junk" up the first page near the top with a "see our mobile site" announcement. Looks crappy and wrecks the design. And I was out with a bunch of friends for coffee this morning (age range mid 40's - mid 50's) and none of them new that clicking a wifi icon would take them to a mobile site, so if it doesn't say "click here for mobile version" no one would ever know to do so.

I've drilled the mobile version of the website down to the pertinent information you can see it here:

So can this be done?

Forget the button and put the redirect javascript on the conventional website Home page only.

Smart phone users will be redirected to the mobile site. On the mobile site you can have links back to any other pages of the main site - apart from the Home page - and the mobile users will get the full deal.

You could put these links at the bottom of the mobile page under "More Info".

Ok Roddy I think I understand this. I'm not going to check the mobile box in Everweb. I'm going to add your code to the home page as an html snippet? and the home page will direct to a mobile page I've created. On that mobile page will be a link to go to the full site should they want too. My question is I want them to see the home page with the slider and pix's of what you see on a biplane ride... so I'll have to create a duplicate home page but I don't want google to "punish" me for duplicate pages so should I put it in like a subfolder or put a noindex meta tag on that duplicate page?

Put the code in the Head Code box in the page inspector.

Why not create a new page with the slider and some different content or use a swipe slider on the mobile page?

Well we tried that and tested it at the airfield but on some of the phones people had the load time was very poor with a slider and such. And when you look at it on an ipad it isn't full width its narrow to fit on a mobile phone so they would really like tablet users to get a full width page.
