When I first starting using it I hated it. I felt it was a long way from being ready for "Prime Time". As I get into it a bit, I'm getting used to it. It's becoming easier to use. It has very powerful parts to it. My biggest complaint is there was no instruction. We all had to pick away at it "Blind". This I believe was your biggest mistake. We wasted a lot of our time and your time trying to figure this thing out.

Now that I'm into it a bit more I'm amazed at EasyWeb's flexibility and ease of use. I just now figured out I could put shadows on my text in the text boxes. If you read the comments you'll see we're just sort of sharing what we discover.

Get your ScreenFlow opened up and you'll be amazed at how fast we catch on then. I have to go, I can pick up on other things later. As an over all opinion: You have a winner!

Thanks for the feedback. It is very much appreciated.

Regarding the videos we really wanted to get some feedback of the issues people were having so we knew how to target them. As you may know we have one of the largest collections of iWeb video tutorials so you can be assured we will be doing the same with EasyWeb.

You said;

We really designed this to be very similar to how iWeb worked. I am worried that this may be a little confusing now. Can you tell me why this was confusing to you? Was it too different from iWeb? How could we improve this?

Thanks,

I have to agree with the previous writer on one thing - I hated it first and am beginning to love it now...I think part of it is that even though it is similar to IWeb certain things work differently and habit is important. Once you start figuring out how little things work everything changes. Yes, once you have even basic instructions (which I find terrific on some other products from Rage - simple and clear) everything will go much smoother. I do have some issues when trying to publish pages: fonts I choose look rather different and colors are sometimes much more vivid (not a bad thing but would be good to see the more exact rendition). However, regarding Fonts - this is something I need to understand better and learn how to use external fonts. I know I will understand it much better if there are instructions. And what I mean by that is this: I am a musician and amateur web designer. I did pretty well with IWeb - all my sites are quite beautiful and they function well. I learned how to add HTML and certain codes. But my understanding of it is VERY PRIMITIVE.I use these things more by trial and error. Not your fault :) But what would help me A LOT would be detailed instructions on where to put CSS code, what and how to insert codes into Header/Footer. Or maybe there are already instructions somewhere on your site and I just don't know where to look. So when you release EasyWeb with instructions all that info will be very helpful - after all this kind of software is aimed at us, ignorant amateurs...:).

For instance I am using a Google Open Sans Font. I did choose the ones I want out of 10 styles they offer, I inserted it into Head Code part on the very first publishing page. And yet it looks different when published. So I must be missing something and if instructions are provided I know it will all work.

Another thought: I think it would be easier to see things if the Inspector sections/Titles were better defined by different colors: like the words "Shape" "Fill",etc. Sometimes I realize I am looking at it and not seeing it because all the colors are the same and a bit pale - as opposed to colorful pictures at the bottom of the screen - those colors help to make things a habit much faster. I am attaching a photo...

But seriously, big thank you for your work!

Paul,

Also, while I have a minute, The photo page is very confusing to me. I've placed small thumbnails (not really by choice) that I find very hard to alter. When published they work great as slide shows, but it was nothing I planned.

Yes, I have to admit I didn't realize I could add shadows to the text boxes, or if I did I forgot ... I'm old you know. I'm a 66 year old geek wanna be. I love playing with this stuff.

I just started using a mac about 3 years ago and only got into simple web stuff about a year ago. I was using iWeb and had another host (dannica patrick sponsors) and it was nothing but hours on the phone and headaches with thier customer service. I was told by two separate people, and i quote "We don"t design websites or trouble shoot html issues". I was only asking why my website never came up when I uploaded...LOL. I just started beta easyweb 4 hours ago and I already have my site transferred and back up with two emails that were answered within 30 mins of me sending them. Rage has always helped me with my projects even if I wasnt hosting with them. Easyweb is awesome and I can only see it getting better.....my favorite part of using Easyweb so far, let's see.....it's easy. My site is up on the web and for me and my emails are functioning, it's the little things. Thank for thinking of the less savy in the web world . I lost 2 years of my contract with the other hosting company, to me its worth every penny to use Rage and Easyweb. I know that there is backlash from folks but I will spread the word when it is time. Great product and support guys. Grade A+ :)

@jdm4given: I am very happy to hear this from you. This is exactly our goal and what we want people to experience when they use our services.

One of the things we noticed was that people had trouble setting up their email accounts and then getting their email accounts into Apple Mail. We built that functionality into EasyWeb so it should be simple.

Our goal is to let you focus on what you do best and not have to worry about learning something entirely new and technical like building a website. The more feedback we get the better we can make EasyWeb for everyone.

Very happy to hear you you are having so much success with it!

@Yelena: We definitely don't want people's first reaction to be that they hate the software. I think once we get more video tutorials out it will be easier to understand. Everybody thinks differently so these are a little tricky to get right. Thanks for the feedback!

I hit the mail pothole last night but with the tutorials and some elbow grease they are working. Hey, on your setting up mailbox tutorials the only thing that threw me for a loop is that you guys say on there to type in mail.yournam.COM but my website is a .ORG. I battled myself for an hour before I figured it out but when I did it worked fine. The mail has been my only sang, I am very excited about using this full time and will be looking forward to update. thanks again

I do wonder though, since I am setting up and email address from some who uses a PC will it be a hard process for them? I only saw the Apple mail client tutorial, thanks.

Most of the negative comments I have read about EasyWeb are from people who have never tried it or who are not experienced enough to figure out how it works due the fact that its still in Beta without any instructions.

I think, in the long run, more people will begin to appreciate how much better it is than iWeb for those who want to progress beyond a basic website. They just need to forget about comparing it with iWeb and realise how much better it is.

To me, iWeb's biggest stumbling block was the widgets and the way in which they worked. Even if they had allowed third party developers to create them, the concept was flawed. EasyWeb's method of code injection means that you won't have to run out and buy add-ons for a feature that you may only use once. As such it puts it ahead of RapidWeaver which can end up ridiculously expensive.

In the same way, it doesn't require users to go out and purchase templates since all they need to do is import a stylesheet in the head code. One of the strengths of iWeb was the fact that you didn't have to use a template - other than the basic white or black - and could produce your own unique design. The downside was the fact that you couldn't write, or reference, CSS styles inside the app.

When I think of all the questions that were asked over and over again in the iWeb forum I can't help think that a lot of them could have been answered more easily and efficiently if there had been a better and properly indexed help file.

It would also help to have a few guidelines about the dos and don'ts of basic web design and find some way to encourage users to actually read them before attempting to create their masterpiece!

Both of the above would save a lot of wear and tear on your tech support system.

To Roddy:

I totally agree... And I didn't mean to say I hated EasyWeb...:) It was simply the fact that when you think of it as a "replacement" you automatically try to do things as you are used to plus more.... So ttuly it is simply a matter of getting used to a few different steps. Looking forward to instructions. And Roddy, thank you for your post about Fonts. Very helpful. How do you know all this stuff??? Didn't you say you are an amateur?

Y.

I use the "suck it and see" method for learning and only look at instructions when I get really stuck.

I learned a lot of stuff while creating the iWeb for Musicians website and I still do a fair amount of support for those who need to go beyond the boundaries of iWeb.

A couple of years ago, when it was obvious that iWeb was dead, I started using Rage's WebDesign app to create mobile websites. I still do this a little although it is mainly customizing media players and other website features for those who can't hack it.

Mobile websites require a slightly different approach from traditional ones and I'm sure you will all get the opportunity to create your own once these guys at Rage get some time to implement the Dynamic Width option that's lurking in the page layout section of the page inspector.

I see... I actually got some great information from your IWeb for musicians site a long time ago - again thank you for generously sharing your knowledge!

I was going to tear down the iWeb for Musicians website but it still gets over 20K visitors per month so I will leave it for awhile. The iWeb forum is almost dead but I suppose people will keep using the app as long as they can.

Some people are very resistant to change and don't seem to realise that if you aren't moving forwards and increasing your knowledge, you are actually going backwards in relation to the rest of the universe!

Old habits die hard... <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> But in defense of those who don't want to move - the IWeb is almost perfect for those who don't know anything about computers, those of us who add stuff outside of IWeb - we are curious and do try new stuff! :)
