Any web video enthusiasts or experts here? Two questions..

User: UncleTod 11 years ago
I have a capture of a 2-hour video that was streamed from a musical performance from our local university. Since I was in it, I'd like to make several clips so I can put them on my web page using the stock Video widget that comes installed on EW.

1. I'm looking for an app to simply review the video and set beginning and ending markers, which I would like to use to define a clip that I could save as a discrete file. iMovie and a couple of "video editors" found on MacUpdate aren't intuitive and I've made a mess of the original (fortunately I have a couple of backups). Any suggestions for a relatively cheap app that will simply clip a segment here and there?

2. I have a couple of other short clips but I find that they're pretty large and EW pops up a warning that such large file sizes might be slow to load and have spotty play. I'm looking for an app that will accept a video clip and compress it. As i understand it, the EW widget really like M4V videos so I'll be looking for something that will shrink my clips.

Bonus question: If any readers do have experience with the above, and know about web resources of information/tutorials about these topics that would enable me to learn more, please feel free to post links.

Many thanks!

You can do that with QuickTime which is already on your computer. Edit menu->Trim

It doesn't say it will have spotty play, just that it is a large file and will take time for the user to download it. Though it should start playing as soon as it has downloaded part of the video.

Your best bet for the best compatibility and ease of use is to use youtube or vimeo for your videos though.

@ Paul: Leave it to the dev to point out my false claim in that warning! I was paraphrasing from memory but got caught. Sorry about that! :-(

WRT QT: I must confess to total ignorance of the capabilities of QT. I had always considered it just a player that popped up when I clicked on certain audio/video files. Is my face red!

Thanks for the tip about using external sites for the videos. A couple of questions: Is there a difference if the clip is stored on my remote host and played back through the EW widget vs. a visitor viewing it on YouTube? That is, a difference in load times, etc?

QuickTime Pro 7 is worth having if you want to roughly edit clips and process then for fast start streaming.
