Viewing Two Column Text Block Control

Two Column Text Block Control

User: Peter K. 11 years ago
Yea ... so I am old fashioned. I think the internet needs to come out of the dark ages and begin to consider two column page composition. If a user can lay out two text blocks to LOOK like two (or more) columns on a web page why can't the user simply instruct the text block to compose in that format.

I"ve seen some pretty bad attempts done by 'armatures' to do this (quick get the eye bandages! It hurts so much).

Not looking for a tech to say "can't be done." I need a tech that can say "HOW can it be done?"

The internet is already out of the dark ages.

Hi Peter,

Unfortunately there is no built in way to do this in EverWeb at this time. You'd have to just place two text boxes next to each other. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but that's the current situation.

Perhaps a Widget can be made to do this though.

I would hope that you would pass the thought on to the EverWeb development team. I realize that what they do with it maybe entirely something else, including being ignored.

There is a widget for this…

http://everwebcodebox.com/widgetbox/more/text-columns.html

It uses the CSS3 multiple column properties so can only be used in modern browsers. Internet Explorer users need at least V 10.

The settings include column count, gap and rule width, style and color. The column width property is not required due to the fact that it can be adjusted by dragging the widget.

Not trying to be rude but I think you presume I am competent at CSS scripting. Ages ago I was introduced to it with some questionable outcomes ... I got a 'B' out of the class but I feel it was a highly undeserved one. This is one reason why I am considering acquiring EverWeb since their corporate position is to make things easy for the consumer/end user.

Looked at the widget and it looks promising. One issue down a 'million' to go! Thanks!
(Very Evil Smirk) Bet EverWeb development could improve on it by adding a forced column break option ... and maybe a background control color for the copy so that quotes, and key paragraphs [full justified highlighting] can be highlighted.!

The widgets don't require any knowledge of CSS. I believe Roddy was just explaining what it did and why it would not be compatible with earlier versions of IE.
