It would be very nice to have alt text (for SEO) for any image dragged to a page with the option to link that image to another page, yes I know there is a widget by Roddy that does this individually but this takes far too long & I am trying to streamline our weekly website update process which currently take a day and a half using iWeb, iWeb SEO tool, web crusher, transmit & then rage site map generator. It is actually quicker for me to use everweb combined with iWeb SEO tool but it would be nice to have it all in Everweb. Kind regards website for reference: http://www.victorianpine.com Last edit 11 years ago |

While alt text is good for SEO, and if you want Google to index your images, but you need to remember that this is not its original purpose. Alternative text is there for non visual browsers and for occasions when the image fails to load. It is fairly essential for those who plaster their websites with images and don't bother to add even a caption but less so for those who realise the importance of hierarchy and text descriptions. The best way to find out how good your web page is as far as SEO is concerned is remove all the media - images, audio and video. That's what the SE spider's "see". How many photographer's website do you see with images and sliders but no text description. They wonder why the search engines don't like them not realising that, as for as SEO is concerned, their pages are virtually blank. In your case, you have good text descriptions but you are not considering hierarchy. In each of the text boxes with the product description, The first part with the larger font size should be an <h4> heading. If you think that adding images via a widget for a better and more efficient web page "takes far too long" then you aren't going to be too happy about adding all these HTML headings. On each page, the site name should be an h1, the page name an h2, product categories (painted pine, antique pine, plain ole pine) an h3 and the individual products an h4. If you are depending on a website to make money, you need to put in that extra effort. iWeb created sites were fairly useless for e-commerce. EverWeb, on the other hand, gives you all the tools to do it successfully. You just need to take the time to learn about them and use them to your advantage on every page. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Roddy. I can see it from your point of view 'so called website designers' like us with flowery websites full of pics saying 'I want it to do this & I want it to do that...' I'm beginning to sound like one of the interior designers we get in our showroom every week....so trust me 'I get it'. On the h1 h2 tags, we used to add these via transmit once website was uploaded, but kind gave up & it didn't seem to make much difference to website traffic... I almost don't dare ask but is there an easier way of doing it. Also I'll have a look at spider view, haven't done that for a while. So far compared to iWeb everweb is wonderful & so are your widgets which i use. Thanks for your input. Andy |

After spending a few years doing front end coding for responsive web designs, everything about EverWeb is easy! I don't use widgets or master pages on the EverWeb Codebox site because they didn't exist when I first started it. I have a template page with header, footer, h3, h2 and h4 headings and a "master" text box which I use to start new pages. Duplicating these as required is quicker than setting up a new text box for doing a non-heading heading - if you see what I mean. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Could I add the h1 h2 tags with html snippet in ever web? Or should I attempt to write a template in Dream Weaver? Also entirely on a separate subject will your 'hyperlink banner' work with the 1.4.0 EV? If so I'll get that now....(after work that is) |

If you use one of the HTML heading widgets… http://everwebcodebox.com/widgetbox/basic-widgets/html-headings.html http://everwebcodebox.com/widgetbox/layout/fonts-headings.html … it's really quick to do. Set up one h4 with your choice of styles and then just duplicate it for the others on the same page. Then copy and paste it to the next page and so on… All the sliders in the new Slideshow pack only work with V1.4. They will not work with older versions. V1.4 introduced a new widget control which allows us to add alt text, title text, captions and hyperlinks to slideshows which is a major step forward. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! started to play with banner slider, could I ask if the alt text needs to have hyphens? ie.. 'old pine shutters' or 'old-pine-shutters' |

No need to. Just write the alt text with keywords - no ands, buts, or anything that does contribute to the image description. Ask yourself if a prospective customer is more likely to enter "shutter" or "shutters" into a search. ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb!
