WHY CAN'T I PUBLISH MY F'N SITE...

User: Steve M. 12 years ago
I restarted EverWeb today because if I don't restart it periodically it crashes, so when it comes back up the Google Maps widget isn't working and neither is the Application Updater. I looked under the Site Publishing Settings and I had been logged out. So I've been trying to log back in ever since. That was over four hours ago. Why do I have to log in to publish locally (on my desktop) anyway? Does that mean the application will not work unless an internet connection is present? That's f'n bullsh*t.

Also, why when I save my work does EverWeb not remember my publish settings and keeps reverting back to 'Publish To: Folder'? I have to change it EVERY TIME I OPEN IT!!!?!
AND I JUST NOTICED that all of the code which was in my Head/Footer Code boxes is now gone. If I didn't have this code saved as a text file outside of your sh*tty application...

...just, nice work gentlemen. Real nice.

You don't sound like a happy camper. A lot of people here have been making some great sites with EverWeb. It's still version 1. So if there's bugs, report them. If you're having problems, someone will surely try to help. If you want to make suggestions, you can do so in Feature Requests. But just trashing the app is not going to get you too far.

Sorry for the problems you are experiencing.

What do you mean when you say google maps and the application updated aren't working? What exactly happens when you try and use them?

Are you sure you saved your work when you entered your header and footer code and changed the publishing location?

Lastly when you say you've been trying to login for 4 hours, what exactly happens when you try and login?

The Google Maps App and the EverWeb Application Updater will not work without being signed in to the EverWeb Account connected to my email address I purchased/registered the software with under 'Preferences> Account' (the EverWeb application logged me out for whatever reason) and in the Site Publishing Settings, where it has 'Publish To:' it's on "EverWeb" and will not allow me to change it to 'Folder' or 'FTP Server' until I am logged in via the internet. When I try to log in by using my account email/password I originally setup everything under which is supposed to be saved by EverWeb to where I didn't have to log in every time I use the application it would not let me. I have opened and closed the application many times before this without a problem, sometimes due to EverWeb crashing on it's own during publishing and then periodically by me to prevent the crashes. The application will not work unless it can log back in and verify the user email address and password credentials and for whatever reason when I attempt to do this, it will not. The spinning mac color wheel just comes up while it appears to be attempting to do so and just stays that way for hours. I have an internet connection obviously as I submitted my Bug Report to the forum. The application just isn't recognizing it. And Yes, I'm sure I saved my work, especially after all of the crashing. I'm more than 100% sure I have saved everything I do in the application after I make a change due to the periodic crashes.

My concerns are this, 1.) EverWeb is supposed to log in automatically every time the application is opened with the username/password combination it's registered under and for whatever reason it's not doing this consistently apparently. This is the first time that this has happened in the couple of weeks I've been working with it. I removed the application last night, downloaded and installed again and it's working fine now, but I will not be constantly doing this. It needs to be fixed. If it happens again, I will be requesting a refund, and 2.) every time I close and reopen the EverWeb application, under the 'Site Publishing Settings' the "Publish To:" preference is not saved it continually defaults to 'Folder' even when changed as 'FTP Server' and saved, 3.) it takes a minimum of thirty minutes to publish even the smallest change to a website which after a couple of publishes the application begins to crash, 4.) I am unable to work offline, meaning that if there is no internet connection present I cannot even publish locally to a folder on my desktop because the application requires logging back in to your website and verifying the credentials. After the application has verified the install once, it should not have to do it every time it is used. That is not what I paid $80 for. For all of the crashing and workarounds I have to use to even make this program work, it's ridiculous that I should also after having purchased/verified the purchase that I should have to have an internet connection present to even use it, especially when it apparently has a tendency to not even recognize the connection and has to be reinstalled in order to work.

1. Yes it is supposed to login automatically. Since you are not able to login though there must be a problem. I suggest you email support with your email/password you are using. As well, please send your IP address to see if it has been blocked in any way. You can find out your IP by entering 'what is my ip' into Google.

2. That's probably related to the first issue, so lets get the resolved and see if it helps

3. I answered this elsewhere but this is fixed for version 1.3.1 which you can download from our website now.

4. We will be changing this soon so that you don't always have to be logged in. In the meantime, you can use the Preview feature to see what your website looks like.

As per your crash reports have you been sending them to us and entering your name/email in the dialog that comes up? The only way we can help with crash reports is if we get the actual crash report and can see who it is from. Otherwise there is NO WAY for us to know what the problem is or offer a suggestions.

I apologize in advanced but support will be a little slow for the next 3 days as most of us are at Macworld. We will still get back to you as fast as possible, but please keep this in mind.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Okay, I'm not sure how to send the crash reports as I do not remember being given that option after it crashed, but I'll check it out and I'll try and submit a help ticket. And Paul, I really am sorry for being a d*ck, but I'm really under a lot of stress trying to get a site up for my employer and all of these "issues" are making it very difficult to keep him pleased and not make me look like we wasted the companies funds. Thanks for your help.

I understand. Don't worry, we'll help you get everything resolved.

If the program actually quits when you get a crash that's a system crash. You'll have to copy and paste the crash report you see into an email to us.
