Viewing Two domains

Two domains

User: J Lee H. 10 years ago
I have two websites built on iWeb, a personal site and a business site, each with a different domain. If I choose the hosted version of Everweb, will the $99 annual fee cover two separate websites/domains? What is the number of domains and/or websites that can be hosted with the hosted version of Everweb?

You can have an unlimited number of domains on the hosting account as long as they fit in with the 2GB file limit. More file space can be purchased for an additional cost.

I looked on the pricing page and did not see a list of prices for additional space. Please tell me how much it costs for additional space.

Here are all the packages with prices.

Thank you for supplying the prices. I about had a heart attack when I saw those prices, though. Why are you so uncompetitive? I have been using two other providers, who, unlike Rage Hosting, DO have 24/7 telephone support, and they are both similarly priced, but you're way up in the ozone. My iWeb site is currently 3.5 GB, and I'm looking to add quite a bit more to it, so I will need to at least go with your next level package, which is 10 GB. But at $200 a year, that is untenable. Even if I subtract $50 a year for EverWeb updates, $150 for 10 GB compares to $60 for 10 GB and $120 for UNLIMITED space at MacHighway, and $84/year for 100 GB (but one website only), or $108/year for UNLIMITED disk space and websites at GoDaddy (and those are the regular prices...they're now on sale for $60 & $72 respectively). I am in shock that you would charge $150 a year for a mere 10 GB.

Now that I've discovered the out-of-proportion web hosting prices of Rage, it looks like it's going to be the stand-alone version. I see in the comparison list between the stand-alone and hosted versions of EverWeb that only the hosted version lists "Ability to publish only modified pages." So, this means that with the standalone version, every time I make a minor change to my website, I have to re-upload the entire site? What would be the purpose of that? iWeb could do incremental changes even to a non-MobileMe site.

I was really excited when I found EverWeb, but when you make the hosted version outrageously priced, and cripple the stand-alone version to not allow incremental uploads, you are seriously bursting my bubble.

The services offered by those companies are not the same as those offered by our EverWeb service. To only compare the file space and say our prices are too high is not a fair comparison of the services offered. There are many different features provided by the EverWeb service that you won't find anywhere else. In addition, 24/7 support doesn't mean high quality support, it just means you can talk to someone any time of the day but that doesn't mean they can provide the right solution for you.

With EverWeb you get the following
1. The EverWeb website builder
2. Customized features only available through the web hosting platform (email management, password protection, redirects and more)
3. Customer support that is NOT outsourced and provided by people knowledgeable about the software you are using to build your site AND your hosting services
4. One-click publishing that doesn't require any FTP or server set up/configuration
5. Servers are configured out of the box to work flawlessly with EverWeb. Some hosting companies block features (like contact form scripts) which requires extra steps to get working.

As well, the superior hosting platforms we use which offer;
1. RAID backups at no additional charge
2. Enhanced security since your shared server that your site is on can't use third party scripts that can compromise the server

More importantly, the prices you quoted will increase on renewal of your hosting contract since they are introductory only prices to get you using the service. Make sure to read the fine print. They also are quoted for a 3 year, paid upfront contract.

Lastly, there is no such thing as UNLIMITED disk space. Just like your computer is limited by your hard drive space, so to are your web hosting providers. Refer to their fine print regarding unlimited disk space or bandwidth to see what limitations there actually are.

To sum up, we aren't charging $150/year for a mere 10GB. We are charging our prices to provide an all in one solution to design, publish and maintain your site without any hassle or set up that goes beyond the file space provided.

That being said, you can use any web hosting provider you want with EverWeb.

As of version 1.3 this is no longer the case. Incremental uploads work with both versions.

Thank you for your responses. Well, at least it's a great relief to know that incremental uploads are possible with the stand-alone version!

As for the hosting pricing, I do appreciate the things you pointed out, but they still don't seem to be worth the huge price differential. Although I realize "unlimited" cannot literally be unlimited, they are still a long shot from the 10 or 25 GB you offer for steep increases in prices. You mention the selling points for hosting at Rage, but those are true whether I get a 2 or 10 or 25 GB package, so you are still charging a horrendous amount for disk space. (And about the renewal hosting prices: I've had MacHighway's medium package for 5 years and I pay only $9.95 a month, so your increase-at-renewal claim does not hold there.) While I would like to have the hosted version, I can't find a way to justify it at these prices (2 GB price, yes; 10 GB price, no), so I guess I'll go for the stand-alone version. Thank you for answering all my questions.

P.S. I'd seriously consider $150 a year (EverWeb + hosting) for 10 GB, even though that's still quite expensive for just 10 GB. But $200 a year is pushing it too hard. Let me know if you bring the 10 GB package down to a more reasonable level!

I have another question. Since I can't fit one of my websites on Rage because of the 2 GB limit, can I do this: Can I get the hosted version of Everweb to use for my smaller website that would fit within the 2 GB, and then publish my larger website to another provider?
User: Paul-RAGESW 9 years ago
Yes you can do that.

I am looking into building 2 new websites with everweb plus updating my existing one.
I saw I can transfer my address to you. Could you kindly advice me on how long this takes?

Also I am looking for addresses ending in .de but you don't offer that option on your site. How should I proceed?

Thanks so much for helping!

Best,
