Viewing Audio / Video insertion

Audio / Video insertion

Anyway for a user to add their own Audio or Videos?

Using HTML5, adding an audio mp3 would be as simple as opening a widget that contained the basic code and adding the relative path to an audio file in the ewExternalFiles folder.

Video would require the use of an MP4 and the addition of an OGG and possibly a WebM.

Both of the above should work in IE older than V9 if the HTML5 Shiv is included in the widget.

I wonder if its even worth including this feature since VideoJS is so easy that anybody can create the code in a few minutes...

... and it has the advantage of flash fallback for older browsers. To create another method would be kind of like reinventing the wheel. Even a complete beginner will manage this one as long as they know how to link to the files in the ewExternalFiles folder.

Flowplayer designer is a better bet for those who want to add more than one movie to the page and have one stop as the another starts. Again, a few minutes at this page will create the code for inserting via the HTML widget...

This wouldn't be a path for someone like "grandma" wanting to upload video's of the grandchildren. This is EasyWeb not a professional web design tool

Its actually easier and quicker than uploading to YouTube and modifying their code.

There is no idiot proof way to show videos on a web page. Any way that works in all browsers and on all devices requires a little effort. The VideoJS online tool is for beginners and its very successful and popular.

Experienced web designers can get under the hood or use Flowplayer.

Have you come across a method of instigating video which is simpler and fulfills the basic requirements of loading a poster image instead of the movie file? If so, can you post an example please?

I am hoping that EasyWeb will develop as something more than just a beginners tool. There's too many of these around already and Grandmothers are well catered for by all these online website builder sites.

I personally use services like "YouTube" because I like casting my net out wider and drawing viewers from more than just one source. That being said I do believe this is being marketed at more entry level users hence the one click publishing to rage's server's.

This is just speculation at this point. But, I do not believe this is being marketed at "PRO" users

I don't think you are considering the fact that EasyWeb will allow you to simply add your own movie files to the external files folder. There's no need to waste time even uploading them to YouTube or anywhere else.

I just tried adding a movie using the HTML5 video tag and its even easier than I thought. You don't even need to add your video file dimensions to the code. The HTML widget wraps the video in a div whose size you can adjust in the metrics inspector. It doesn't get any easier than that!

This is not exactly "Pro" stuff!
