PUBLISHING fails completion again and again, and messing up fonts. And, why can't a person simply do an easy

Paul told me before to republish whole site before, so been doing that. I only needed to fix one thing...

Tried several times. Froze up. Finally worked (yes, I reset, emptied, quit and restarted ... as instructed). Worked, but found bad link to fix. Fixed link. Tried again, reset and closed Safari, emptied cache, followed all instructions, etc.etc.etc. (usual routine).

Publishing got stuck for on same external MP3 file for 4 hours. Tried again, went to sleep. 12 hours later, stuck on yet another file. No "Your Site Has Been Published" notice. ¾ pie.

Checked. Link fixed. Thought all was well, but no. Now all but a couple of fonts went haywire on the Lyrics page. The various fonts always worked fine before.

The page is a total wreck now. Lyrics

These MP3 files have worked (not gotten stuck) before. I do not need to replace them (I tried that before when getting stuck...).

Can you guys do anything about this from your end?

What is wrong with your Publish Site Changes feature? Does it actually exist? Fixing one link should not require publishing the entire site... When I asked it to Publish Site Changes, it is loading the entire site, anyway. So either way, it publishes entire site.

I had this site ready to publish within a couple of days of downloading EverWeb, and bought One Click on March 3, 2014, have not been able to anounce new site because every time something goes wonky. You should see the screenshots of things I have not shared with you.

It is as if there is a gremlin that moves from one part of the site to another to screw it up.

The problems with simply making a simple edit are maddening.

The problems with fonts reformatting themselves/morphing is maddening (this has happened before). (I am using fonts from within EverWeb, so not introducing/pasting foreign fonts.)

I will try again. Shut everything down, empty everything, etc.

Ask everyone why the Publish Site Changes is not working. (I have Safari).

I want this to work. I like the similarities to iWeb.

Advice??

Publishing finally worked. (5th try, and hours after first attempt.)

How can I simply publish an edit without publishing entire site?

What is the problem? Is it Safari? Is it the software?

Thanks,
Lena

Right now external files are always republished. We will be improving this in a future version.

If your site doesn't fully publish the fonts/layouts will not look right.

Make sure you have the latest 1.3 release when publishing.

If publishing stops, check your console by using spotlight and typing Console. It will have messages from EverWeb in there. In the top right hand corner of the console type in EverWeb so that only messages from EverWeb are displayed. You can then copy and paste wants in there to an email to us.

Thank you, Paul!

I always update to latest EverWeb version when prompted... (did this A.M., too)

Thank you guys for continuing to work so hard.

BELOW, ADDED WHEN EDITED LATER:

That expalins it (external files always reloading...)

I have lots and lots of external files because this is for a music publishing company that requires MP3s/music... and PDFs for printable lyric sheets. More of both will be added regularly, so I hope you guys can get the publisher to recognize already publsihed external files soon... (I guess the long load-time increases probability for mis-publishes).

Always appreciate your help and explanations.

Best,

Lena

You may want to consider using fonts your visitor has on his computer :

You are using fonts that are installed on your Mac - a lot of which are not web safe. See this page for more info…

http://everwebcodebox.com/layout/fonts.html

You are also using 425 different font and link styles in your site which is rather a lot and your landing page looks as though it has not been published properly.

LOL! Roddy! 425 font/link styles? Did you count?

Many of the fonts yo see are actually within jpeg images...

I only used fonts from EverWeb... And almost exclusively Arial and Arial Black, except for Times (again, from EverWeb), once in a text box on home page) and various ones on only one other page (LYRICS) where I trusted EverWeb would convert those larger textboxes into images (like it had in the past).

Thanks, though.

Plain old Arial - directly from EverWeb - is the main font I used throughout the site I used, with some Arial Black, also from Everweb “Web-Safe.” All fonts used were from EverWeb’s various choices.

On one page, I desired additional fonts for visual/emotional impact, and since large text-boxes are being converted into images by EverWeb. After the ones availabel had morphed, I re-did fonts and used the additional texts present within Ever-Web’s “Web-Safe” choices on songs’ lyrics since they suited the illustrations for the songs. Having to re-do all the PDF links (to printable-lyrics) was a pain, but I did it, creating link buttons to PDFs of lyrics...

I re-did all the large text-boxes in fonts in EverWeb/web-approved, and they still deformed/changed...

So, solution?

I then converted the text boxes with images into .jpeg files, and did not count on EverWeb to do it (since EverWeb's conversion we hit--or-miss). I suggest folks trying to post poems, larger areas of text without links, do that.

Some previously stable smaller text boxes on other pages are still reformatting/scrambling texts intermittently, (ARGH!) but resolve after republishing... and republishing... several times.

I have to have links within text boxes (lots of collaborators’ names to link to their websites from...and places to go to buy recordings...), so I hope EverWeb does not start to convert all text boxes into images, or I am sunk.

So, now, I am making large text boxes (like Lyrics of entire songs) into images, and am superimposing links over them... That is working.

I plan on hanging with EverWeb because I think they are working hard to create a great web-site builder.

Thanks for helping us beginners (to EverWeb) out as we get it together while we transition from years with iWeb.

No, I didn't count them. I looked at the text styles.css which I see you have changed quite radically of this version.

EverWeb doesn't have fonts. It displays the fonts that are installed on your Mac and only a very few of these are web safe. It doesn't "approve" fonts either. I would encourage you to look at the page I referenced in my previous post about web safe fonts and what they are.

EverWeb doesn't convert text to image - you have to choose this option. You should definitely NOT use the option if want a fast loading site that can be found by search engines!

Thanks Roddy. See attached.

I said I converted all fonts into these Web ones (see image) several days ago, after problems, arose, but still had font re-sizing issues post-Web-safe fonts.

Paul (EverWeb) had told me the larger text boxes were being converted into images, automatically. I converted each font to Web safe a while back, just in case it was an issue in conversion.

As I said, I only used Web safe fonts on the last attempt, and still had scrambled eggs. That is the image I sent. Above. Web safe fonts.

The texts that I converted into images that are on the Lyrics page were intentionally more varried/decorative in nature (fonts do have emotional impact). Search-engine optimization is not important since any content/info/text is available in expanded form on other pages in site, within text boxes. The page in question is one where a visitor can simply listen to songs, look at the song illustrations, scroll down and read the lyrics (and maybe sing along). It is a place to go and relax, not the place to learn everything about the song orgins, link to songwriters, etc... (there are ample other places in the web site to do those things.)

That is why I chose to go ahead and redo each lyric in fonts I liked for the individual songs and turn them into images/jpegs.

Thank you for your advice. I'm sure I will have more issues to overcome, since I have to start on a visual arts page today, conveting it to EverWeb.

Lena
