Viewing Password entry

Password entry

User: Rob W. 12 years ago
i thought i saw on the newest update that you can have a page that requires a password to enter for like a 'members only' area. i've searched around and can't find anything on how to do this.

Basically i want to publish the website so others in the company can view it/give feedback on it but it isn't ready to go live to the public, i was wondering if i could use this password entry thing on the home page so only the people i give the password to can view the website, is this possible?

Please note that the password protection feature can only be used when publishing to an EverWeb hosting account.

You must have version 1.3+ installed. The password protection feature an be found on the Page Settings tab in the Inspector Window (scroll down to bottom).

And if you run your own server :

just found where you create passwords but it says its for directories only, so would i have to create a page (like a landing page) and drag the home page into its directory to effectivly create a password entry to the website? making sure no other page is visible in the navigation menu, so when they click home on the drop down menu they will have to input username and password?

Hi Brian. Yes, you can use the password protection feature. Password protection does need to be added to directories. You do not need to drag the home page into the Directory. If you do a secondary click (right click) on the Home page, you will see a Convert to Directory option which will allow you to convert the home page into a Directory.

Hello Jeremy, I have used password protection for directories and it works well. Then I started to group the protected directories within newly created directories: to make the site more clean etc. as explained in the real estate agent video. But it seems that this is not possible: I often get a 500 Internal Server Error: "The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request."
Is it possible to use password protection for directories within directories. Can you explain about this ? Is there a workaround.

Regards,

Willem

Willem, do you have a website URL that shows this problem so I can take a look?

Hello Paul, the url is mijnreisinfo.nl. I changed the site to give you an example, Right now I'm uploading / publishing changes (this takes about 10 minutes each time, another question). Pls click on 'april' and then the directory within 'april'. Up to now I could not get this working well, so I placed all directories needing password protection directly under 'home'

We've fixed the directory within directory password issue you are having for version 1.3.1 which is due out shortly.

We are investigating the publishing issue still though.
