Viewing Drop-down menus

Drop-down menus

[quote="Roddy":7bibolni]I haven't really done much with the EasyWeb default menu because I've been trying to create my own like this...

I will try some things tomorrow. Its getting kind of late here in Scotland!

You appear to have created two menus - one horizontal and one vertical rather than a drop down.
Hi Roddy,
those buttons look great. Can we do that with easyweb?

You can't create a menu like this in EasyWeb - at least not at the moment. Who knows what these guys will do with this app as it is really amazing even in Beta!

You can however easily add this kind of feature due to the way in which EasyWeb allows you to insert code into the page HTML files. The menu was originally designed using Rage's WebDesign app to be self centering and have some extra features like separation between the main and the drop down sections and the last drop down and its sub menus reversed so that they don't disappear off the page (or screen on mobile devices).

Here's an example shown on the iPad...

With some help from Paul, the code was changed to suit EasyWeb. The CSS is inserted into the head code via the Site Publishing Settings page. The HTML is pasted into an HTML Widget and positioned on the page along with the custom headings.

This menu uses pure CSS for the rounded corner, color gradients etc rather than images and should be considered a fairly advanced feature. That doesn't mean that you can't copy an existing version if it suits the style of your site!

Using pure CSS has the advantage of the menu being a lot faster loading than one that uses background images. The downside is that it won't work in older versions of Internet Explorer such as 6 ... 7 which don't support CSS3. In my case, I couldn't care less since I design mainly for mobile devices. If a percentage of your visitors are using out of date browsers you would need to accept the lack of rounded corners and gradients or provide fallback images. This is a total pain and an exercise that I think is futile.

Rage however have to provide the best experience for all eventualities so any menu of this type that is built into EasyWeb would have to work in ALL browsers. Anybody who is comfortable with adding code to their site can create their own online and insert it into EasyWeb using this type of thing...

I'm having a problem with the backing colour in the drop down menus and hoping someone can help. When the menu drops down the backing colour is red and I can't figure out how to change it.

That's a known bug and I'm sure it'll get fixed soon. They are working on a new / improved navigation widget anyway I think.
