CMS Solution

User: Michael S. 10 years ago
Still building my sight, but I'm wondering what solution do you have for my clients to add pages, make image and text edits - some sort of content managment system. Initially, I imagined I would have them download EverWeb and make their own edit after I give them access. However, right now one client is on a PC and has no desire to work on a Mac. Is there a CMS solution that can accomodate my PC users?

Hi Michael,

Currently they would need to have a copy of EverWeb. There is no CMS.

So, should I add a request to the feature requests or are you working on a solution?

If clients want to take control of the the website content, you need to use a CMS and not a web design application. There are plenty of them which are free and easily installed on most servers. The popular ones are Drupal, Joomla and the dreaded Wordpress.

A CMS is usually chosen for large websites owned by companies with an extensive list of products or services which need to be updated constantly. If you have a client like this you should either learn to set up and use their CMS of choice or pass them on to someone who specialize in this type of work. There are thousands of so called web designers out there creating client sites with Wordpress who will be happy to oblige.

For smaller sites with less than daily/weekly updates it is more realistic to pay the web designer to add content. If a client supplies content in the form of a text file with the copy and any images cropped and optimized, it doesn't take very long to add it, publish and update the SEO.

We are working on a solution to make updates in other ways.
