Reconnecting Assets (like in FCP)

User: Christopher 12 years ago
I had to amend a png that I had in the footer on about 10 pages. Since we don't have master footers yet, I had to delete and then copy in the new png, matching the metrics, for each page. Final Cut Pro has a Reconnect Media feature that would be awesome if implemented here. To be able to right click an image once and reconnect it to a new asset that then updates on every page where that graphic is used… would be awesome.

You can have footers with Master Templates. Just make sure to place your objects in the Footer of the Master Template.

Also make sure you download the latest Final Candidate version in the Announcements section which fixes issues with Master Template Footers.

Aha. Unfortunately I've built my website without the templates. I guess for next time...

You can also select the image and go to the inspector -> shape options and change the image from the full drop down menu. Then you don't have to worry about resizing the new image as it will use the old image's dimensions.

Is there any documenation for the master pages that are in the latest version?
User: Paul-RAGESW 12 years ago
Yes, the latest Final Candidate has details in the Manual (under the Help menu).

Also, here is a video tutorial;

Thanks. I've watched the video and will give it a try. By the way, this forum is very difficult to naviagate. I wanted to get back to my own post but there was no way. I searched for Master Pages but that did not lead me to the thread. Please can you set up a way for any user to get back quickly to their own posts to continue to read the replies easily. Thanks

I am now endeavoring to work with the Master Templates. I am able to make changes to text and images in the body of the Master Template which ramify to my pages. However, (using the TRAVEL template) I am unable to make changes to text or images in the header section. This do not carry over into my pages. Unless there is a way to put my own text and image into the header I am going to have to tediously do this for every one of my dozens of pages which defeats the purpose of the Master Templates. Isnt there a way to force this?

Further to what I wrote a few min ago: looks like I will have to pull the NavBar menus out of the header as well, as they also will not carry over to the other pages. Surely, there must be a way to force the changes made to the material in the header to carry over to the pages?

Hi Jock,

I'm a little confused by what you are saying. Master templates (also known as master pages) should carry over to all pages that you have assigned them too.

You have to make sure you have assigned the master template to each page you want to use them with.

Any object (shape, text or image) added to your master template can ONLY be edited from the actual master template and not from the individual page.

I hope this makes sense as it is the best I can answer the question based on my understanding of what you are asking.

If you still have trouble a screen recording may better illustrate the trouble you are experiencing.

Hi Paul, here is a screen shot of my Master Template and a page that is based on it. You will notice that the navigation bar is not the same on the master as it is on the home page. I put a second (white letters) nav bar in the body of the master page and that propagates correctly. However that is not where I want my nav bar; I want it up at the top in the header region which is where EverWeb puts a menu item when I create a new page. But EverWeb will not, with this Template, pull the items to the left. After 4 items it makes a new line, which isnt even corrctly leaded. I create the nav bar like I want it in the header but it does not propagate. Ditto with my image of the "Teacher Centaur' He does not appear on the home page (or any other page based on this master)

By the way this forum is not easy to navigate. I come back to read your post and I am told I have to log in again to reply to it. I have checked KEEP ME LOGGED IN but it doesnt. Then I have to try to find the thread which is difficult. This is quite tedious and just a bit of work would make it so much easier for us. I have had to log in about 5 times today just to read what you wrote and reply to it and find the thread again. Non propagation of master page

You can access your resent posts and threads by clicking the Profile link then scrolling to the bottom of that page.

I'll need you to send me your website project file then so I can take a look.

In the Projects window in EverWeb, right click on your website and select the 'Show On Disk' option.

**DO NOT move this file from this location on your computer**

Please compress the project file before sending it to me by right clicking on it and selecting Compress. You can upload it at http://ge.tt or http://www.dropbox.com and send the link to me.

Make sure to describe the problem you are experiencing when you send your email.

Okay I have sent a zipped project file along with a "read me first" text file about master page items failing to propagate when the items are in the header region (items such as graphics, text and a navigation bar). I uploaded it to http://ge.tt Let me know if you can access this. I also have it in my own dropbox and I can share that with you if you give me an email so you can access it there in case you dont get it from http://ge.tt

Somehow I have a feeling that the problem has to do with the way the EverWEb templates are made. I think they prohibit interactions with the master pages in some of their regions.
