This, for example, was fine before the update. Now look:

HTML Snippet - in EW

It has always been like this but some versions are worse than others.
The thing that puzzles me is that it is not consistent. and this memory loss seems to happen at random - kind of like my own.

I have one site which is over 60 pages and probably has at least 10 HTML snippets per page. The application seems to lose its memory and then needs to refresh the snippets all at once - green arrows everywhere.

I have great sympathy for EverWeb and actually feel quite relieved when it does this. It means that I'm not the only one around here losing my mind!

You can try sending me your project file again so I can test it.

Note that EverWeb updates the widgets whenever you select the page.

@ Christopher
When you get this situation, try adjusting the widget size slightly and then undo. If EverWeb is going to respond at all, this will make it happen.

The question is why does it do this? This would explain all the problems I have been having with snippets since day one.

It doesn't make sense to me that a snippet would need updating when I haven't changed anything. When I do change a snippet, it won't update because all the ones I haven't updated are updating themselves!

The other aggravation that is becoming increasingly frustrating is the fact that EverWeb can't seem to remember minor updates in the way that iWeb does. After making even the smallest of changes - such as correcting a spelling mistake - the application has to run through every file in the site before it will publish this change. Now that one of my sites has around 70 pages, this is getting to be very time consuming.

Some snippets, like the RSS Feed, may update constantly. Other snippets need to reload their settings. It's a complex system, I will see if it can be improved.

Are you publishing to a folder AND using the preview feature in between publishing? Publishing to an EverWeb account won't have this issue.

I am referring to pages that have h1, h2 and several h4s created in snippets. Sometimes these update fairly quickly when the page is selected, sometimes slowly and other times not at all.
Say I duplicate an h4, open it in the Widgets inspector and change the text. With any luck it may update immediately. Usually I have to drag the snippet box slightly to see the change and other times it won’t update at all during the session.
Sometimes I can open the app and everything works as planned - for a while. During an extended session it will start getting slower and slower and finally, grind to a halt. Other times I can open EW and nothing updates.
It’s this random behavior which is strange.

I have followed the progress of Christopher’s site and know that it now has a fair amount of code in snippets. It’s interesting that he is beginning to experiencing this problem which I have had throughout the beta testing period. It’s kind of a relief since, for a while, I thought I was the only one on the planet!

As more users start to create larger and more complex sites, I think this is going to crop up a lot. I have read posts where potential users claim they want to rebuild iWeb sites containing over 200 pages. The time taken to preview or publish minor changes is going to be commented on. I’m surprised former iWeb users haven’t mentioned this already since it will publish minor changes almost instantly.

I don’t use the Preview button at all since it is not any faster than publishing to a local folder. On the odd occasion that I do manage to make changes or updates without any errors, using Preview would double the agony as I would then have to wait twice as long to actually publish to the local folder.

I cannot publish this particular site to the EW server due to the large number of assets and the fact that I can’t add folders to the EW Assets column or upload them to the server. Even at this stage, my assets list is about two and a half times the height of my iMac screen. If I added all the ones from external folders, the list would go down to the floor and start moving across the room.
At least I know that I am not alone on this one from reading the posts in the forum.

This may just be a shot in the dark. EW is able to organize images into folders on a per page basis and creates sub folders for ewExternalFiles and ew_js for each directory. Is it possible to have these folders displayed in assets when a page/directory is selected rather than all the assets for the whole website?
