Quote: Roddy - 03/12/2013 3:48:06 Thanks Roddy. Your link was helpful. I did all the steps so hopefully I can check in a few days and see if the spiders have crawled my site. I'm confused though as to what EW does for us in terms of SEO, and what we must do manually thereafter. It really would be helpful if this was clearly communicated to newbies like me. Look forward to the video. ------------------------------- rMBP 15", 2.6 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, OS X 10.11.6, with 27" Thunderbolt Cinema Display www.cleetche.com |

Don't think of SEO as some code you have to add to your site and thats it. It's marketing, and marketing takes a certain type of expertise. There is no "magic" to add to your site, but rather a process to properly market your website. Many users think that SEO is just adding a bunch of code and keywords and that's it. It's much, much more than that. Think about what you can do to promote your website. What would make people want to link to it? How can you make them find out about your site? The SEO video course will go over all of this. With offline marketing, someone might recommend you have a catchy sign outside that attracts people to your business. For example, last night I read a sign outside a bar that said something like this; http://weknowmemes.com/2013/04/free-beer-topless-bartenders-and-false-advertising/ With online marketing, someone might say, have a catchy title tag because that is what Google shows when your web page appears in their search results page. EverWeb will let you add your title tag, but it's up to you to come up with something that is both catchy, relevant, and has a few of your keywords that will help your site rank well in search engines. So EverWeb makes a few things easier for you. It lets you ENTER your title tag and description. It lets you have keyword rich file names. It can also be used to add other meta tags and soon it will provide more options. Sitemap Automator is going to be released really soon that works really nicely with EverWeb sites. An XML Sitemap is a great way to improve your search engine rankings and get feedback from search engines on things you should update or change on your site. The SEO Video is going to be released in sections with the first ones actually being posted already on our YouTube Channel as they become available. Subscribe to the channel to ensure you get the updates as soon as they come available. Lastly, a few points to live by with SEO; 1. If it were easy to rank for keywords, everyone would be number 1 in Google 2. If your website is useful and provides good content other users will share it and that in turn will increase your search engine rankings 3. A site doesn't rank well, it ranks well for specific keywords or phrases and locations Hope this helps, we will have the full SEO course out shortly. In the meantime, many of our other ]SEO videos apply to any website including EverWeb. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

@ Christopher A site like yours needs a lot of text content to describe all these media files which the spiders can't see. Try to imagine what visitors - humans and spiders - would get from your site if all the images and videos were prevented from loading! When you create web pages using HTML you soon get the concept of hierarchy because it is staring you in the face. Drag and droppers don't see it and very few seem to get it. Hierarchy is very important in terms of SEO and readability. In general, those who use drag and drop apps tend not to actually plan their sites in advance. A successful designer creates a wireframe and site map before even opening the design app. SEO starts at this stage too. Most people seem to treat it as an after thought once the site is published! ------------------------------- Roddy Website: http://everwebwidgets.com Contact: http://everwebwidgets.com/ewWidgets-home/contact.html NOTE: I am an EverWeb user and NOT affiliated with EverWeb! Thanks to you both for the above tips. I guess I'm one of those guys who thought of SEO as an afterthought and am now trying to improve upon it. In terms of hierarchy, is this the order of importance: File name, Navigation Menu Display Name, Web Page Title, Web Page Description…? So if my first page is a splash file, I shouldn't name it Splash. Correct? I think that's been my mistake. My next page for instance is an introductory page. I've called it Introduction. Instead, should I call it something like: Introduction to a collection of films and art by Cleetche?

A splash page is a good way to tell the spiders not to bother crawling the site! If you are going to use one, write some riveting, relevant text for it.
