EW converts .jpg >> .png all images i drop onto page !!!!!

I'm really confused. I appreciate a comment. 1. Normally i create .jpg images optimized for the web, thus size is small. 2. Every .jpg picture i drop onto page converted to .png Thus the size of pictures increase dramatically from 5x to 10x. Simple 100Kb page could be converted into 1Mb….. 3. I tried everything i suppose. How to avoid this silly conversion??? PS: i just checked iWeb = it convert images (even .tiff) dropped onto page into .jpg with very small size…. EW v.1.1 works in opposite direction of Web design logic :) Looks like i just lost $80 Thanks. ADD: As far as i understand it for now, EW has 4 main object types: TEXT, SHAPE, BUTTON and HTML-WIDGET Thus, every .jpg dropped onto page treated as a SHAPE resulting .jpg >>.png conversion (which is obvious). Honestly i can live with that, because that fact forces me to design a page from .png images which is native to page background and style. BUT there has to be a trick to add .jpg to the page the same way it does iWeb. Probably EW needs e new object-type: IMAGE ?????? Last edit 12 years ago |

The app seems to have acquired this nasty habit in the latest release.

Roddy, Thank you for beautiful Widgets. I purchased a bundle immediately. Your site is really informative also. Respect. Regarding the topic i've started: 1. The first Widget i tried from your bundle is a "img" widget. Unfortunatelly "img" widget does not count native aspect ratio of the still image. Thus i have to discover native picture pixels high/width numbers and then manually set widget high/width. This is a pain in the neck, but there is no chance to avoid this step. 2. "img" widget does not resize inserted image accordingly to widget window size. It just loads original image into a widget frame. That cause any browser: huge data-load traffic and additional rendering. As far as i understand, the only appropriate way to use "img" widget is to run additional workflow (resize/optimise) before importing .jpg into "img" widget. I regret to pronounce, but "img" widget is useless in my workflow, because of that. But i like your other widgets. Thus $5 is a real bargain. I hope you will fix "img" widget and update it, because: THE MAIN PURPOSE OF ANY WEB SITE: TO SHARE CONTENT, AND STILL IMAGES .JPG ARE THE STANDART DE FACTO. I regret to report, but i quit from EverWeb to iWeb because EverWeb v1.1 does not support .jpg based content sharing in an easy and convinient way. I hope this issues will be fixed in future releases. Last edit 12 years ago |

Is this why on sites I switched over to EverWeb I cannot go to the site and simply drag an image off onto my desktop? Oddly enough, they DO drag out of the Image Slider Widget. |

Dear Paul and guru, I do really like how EverWeb handles Video. Thus i'm looking forward to learn some tips-and-tricks to fit with .jpg workflow. I appreciate an advice on how to change size/pixels native Image-Galery. We have control on thumbnails size but no control on popup images size. Is there a chance to make it bigger? My gallery now limited with 600x450. Probably images resized to 600 pixels bigger side? I'd be happy with 1000 pixels:) I appreciate your recommendations. Thanks |

Used to just be that photos were converted to png's if a style was added to them in EW – like reflection or border. Otherwise, the original file was left untouched, am I right? Paul, will you guys be addressing this for the next point 1? ------------------------------- rMBP 15", 2.6 Ghz, 16 GB RAM, OS X 10.11.6, with 27" Thunderbolt Cinema Display www.cleetche.com |

Ilya, I agree with your sentiments re: the Image Gallery. It would be nice to have more control over the enlarged image size and to add captions, etc. – all of which I think is coming. In the meantime, some of us have resorted to using Shadowbox. If you do a search of that in the forums, you'll find instructions on how to implement it. But it requires a fair bit of coding and using the html snippet. As for your comments re: Roddy's img widget, why not just resize your photos to the dimensions you want using an external editor? That's the only way to have total control, especially when it comes to file sizes. I use Photoshop Elements and usually compress at setting 5 or 6. But I'm sure Preview can do the same. Unfortunately .jpg, dropped onto page without any modification will be converted to .png. As far as i understand EW architecture now, EW has 4 main object types: TEXT, SHAPE, BUTTON and HTML-WIDGET Probably it needs an IMAGE object-type???? Otherwise to insert SINGLE .jpg (nor Gallery Slider) into page becomes a challenge.. Last edit 12 years ago |

Well I wouldn't jump ship just yet, Ilya! In all of the previous versions, EW didn't alter any of my jpeg photos. In fact for a while, the biggest issue was colour reproduction. But that was sorted out and I'm sure this will be too.

The fact that JPEG images are converted to PNG's is a bug which has been fixed for the next release. I will update it here shortly. The JPEGs are only supposed to be converted to PNGs when you use opacity settings or shape masking. Last edit 12 years ago ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

This is a completely separate issue and you should start a new topic about this and describe exactly what you are doing so we can try and reproduce it here. ------------------------------- Paul EverWeb Developer |

I have found that if I copy/paste from my website, EW does convert the .jpeg to .png. But If i copy/paste from my desktop, it stays a .jpeg. Go figure.
